When does first national insurance number arrive (aged 15/16)?

Just that really. DS2 is 15 but hoping to get a job in the summer the second he turns 16. For one such job it would help if he had his NI number in advance.
I remember DS1 getting it before his birthday but how long before? Is it weeks or just days? Thank you if anyone knows/remembers.

If he has a child trust fund, it's on that paperwork.

If he has a Child Trust account or whatever it was called ahe already has his.

It's supposed to come a couple of months before I think.

DS was never sent one though.

If you look on the Gov website you can just ring them up to get it reissued.

Ds had his through about 3 months before he turned 16

Our children’s NI numbers didn’t come automatically, we had to call HMRC (couldn’t apply online) and request for them to be sent.

Took about 2 weeks to come through

I did not know that - thank you!
