I'm in hospital and bored

I had surgery yesterday. I'm achey and sore but getting lots of painkillers so it's manageable. I've had my shower, in clean pjs and wrestled myself back into my surgical stockings. I've walked up and down the corridor a couple of times. I've phoned anyone not at work 😂I have my ipad but don't really want to watch anything. Ugh, I am not a good patient and I've been awake since 5.30 so it feels like it should be mid afternoon already!

I'm glad you're ok. I've done my back in. I'm not in as much pain as yesterday but moving isn't easy.

TeaHagTeaBag · 06/02/2025 11:57

That's tough. Are you at home? I hope you've got good painkillers too.

If you keep the plastic bags they stocking come in or find something similar put your foot in the plastic bag before putting on the stocking and it will slide on a lot easier

glad all went ok for you and you seem to be doing really well being able to get up etc. time does drag in hospital I hope that you will get some visitors soon.
it does get boring watching too many films, what about reading, crafts like knitting or crochet if you have some, if you have an ipad are there some games you can do or something like a tricky crossword word search or sudoku

TeaHagTeaBag · 06/02/2025 12:09

The nurse showed me that @CoastalCalm !

Good idea about some games, I'll see what I can dig up @sixtyandfabulousofcourse . I have wool and a new pattern to start when I get home but didn't think to bring it with me.

The last time I had surgery it was a c-section so I was too busy trying to keep a newborn alive to be bored 😂

Yes at home. Yesterday was awful, I could barely move but today I'm just on anti-inflammatories. I have lots of painkillers as it happens now and again.

I hope you're feeling much better soon @username299 . Back pain is so limiting to everything

Thanks and I'm glad you're recovering well.

Hospital days are soooo long! Hope you’ll be home soon.

Duolingo

Audiobooks

Do they still have the bedside TV?

I really annoyed the nurses and borrowed a wheelchair and went to Costa

Talked to the people next to me

Tea or coffee usually comes round mid morning and mid arfternoon and they sometimes have magazines and papers

TeaHagTeaBag · 06/02/2025 12:50

Honestly, one of the nurses is keen to send me home today I think. My blood pressure is still quite low though so I'll likely stay tonight and home in the morning.

I've done my duolingo homework and listening to my audiobook now.

What book are you listening to?

TeaHagTeaBag · 06/02/2025 13:02

The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith. I've listened to it (and all then others) a couple of times before so it's easy going.

Any recommendations for when I finish it? Only 5 hours left in it! I tried the Maeve Kerrigan series that seems to be on every sugfestions thread but couldn't get into it.

What type of books do you like?

JandamiHash · 06/02/2025 13:31

Games OP! Candy Crush and Block blaster are good time waster games. Hope you feel better soon

Sunshineandrainbow · 06/02/2025 13:36

Wow impressed you showered and stockings back on.

When I was in for a week last month the thing stopping me showering was the thought of having to put the stockings back on. As someone who showers and washes hair every day I am ashamed to say I had strip washes (mainly wet wipes) for the week I was there and hair was left.

Do you like any games on your phone I played number match quite a lot. I was also happy watching iPlayer on my tablet.

Home your home soon, keep your fluids up to help your BP.

rivalsbinge · 06/02/2025 13:36

Disney and watch rivals... that's 9 hours!

If you feel up to it use the time constructively. Choose and order upcoming birthday presents, plan your next holiday, tick off things from your to do list which can be done online.

That's the plan for the four weeks I'll be on the couch at home!

@Sunshineandrainbow I really didn't know if I'd get them back on but I was covered in that brown antiseptic stuff so really wanted to get it off. I had to avoid the arm with my canula getting wet.

My ipad won't connect to WiFi (my tech support will look at it when he comes in later) but I've found The Chaser on the TV so it's OK for easy passive entertainment.
