To cancel doctors appt because sick baby sleeping

My 12 month old has been off his food for 2 days now, pulling at ear, a few small vomits and very lethargic. No temperature. I wondered if he might have an ear infection so I booked a doctors appt this morning which is at 12pm today. Since then he’s vomited about 4 times and just wants to sleep, so I’m pretty sure it’s a stomach bug. Should I cancel the appointment & let him rest or wake him up & drag him in which might hinder his recovery & potentially spread bug?

I know people aren’t medical professionals on here & I need to follow my gut. But just wondered what others would do… TIA

I would take him, it doesn't sound like he is getting better and the ear pulling would concern me that he has an ear infection, as it did you. If he is tired he will go back to sleep once you have been. Good luck and hope he is in the mend soon

Take him, if he's sleepy because he's ill then he'll get back to sleep easily enough, you don't want it getting worse over the weekend and not having antibiotics if it's an ear infection

I would take him.

Warm the car up before he gets in, give him a blanket and he can shut his eyes during the drive.

I know it’s like a rock and a hard place scenario, but all of his symptoms (especially the ear pulling) could suggest an ear infection. I’d definitely go if I were you. Ending up in out of hours tonight would be far worse on you both.

Of course you take him- if you’re worried enough to make an apt you can’t not attend because he’s asleep. If anything his symptoms have escalated- you can’t assume it’s a minor gastrointestinal virus based on your armchair diagnosis. Sorry to be harsh- I just can’t understand the logic of considering not going.

Take him.

It's awful to wake a sleeping poorly baby, but he might need medication.

Floralnomad · 06/02/2025 11:53

Take him , hope he gets well soon

Make him as comfortable and warm as possible and take him.

You need professional advice.

For the gp to be able to see him as he is will be valuable in making an accurate diagnosis.

They may identify and treat something early that could become something worse if you don't take him just because he's sleeping.
