I've been craving a nice biryani these past few days. A proper Hyderabadi biriyani.

Pasta aglio e olio (garlic and oil, and chilli flakes). So simple but so, so good 😋

I always find biryani uninspiring, but it might be because a friend's husband always makes it and I've never liked him...

I think my favourite single Indian dish is kadhi chawal, or dhosa (esp Nair dhosa), or idli, but anything involving aubergine, too. Alas, I now live somewhere with only a scattering of rather poor Indian restaurants, and my own Indian cooking is only adequate.

I had a amazing biryani in India which just ticked all my boxes.

How dry was it?

My favourite dish is probably a proper roast chicken with the trimmings including bread sauce.

Or variations thereof. I ate an amazing roast chicken in Georgia that had a walnut and pomegranate sauce. I've tried re-creating several times but just can't get it right.

It wasn't. The rice was spicy. The chicken was juicy and tasty. And it came with some good gravy.

Nice plate of Ham, Egg & Chips

Kedgeree, I like that you can just use a fork or spoon and stroll around with it if you fancy and I like that you can have fish, egg and veg together and it has spice.

Fillet steak - medium rare - and creamed spinach.

Or grilled lamb chops with mashed carrot & parsnip.

Hoppingabout · 05/02/2025 19:17

If it's winter, a cottage pie and peas. Perfect comfort food for every eventuality.

In summer, fresh norwegian prawns that you shell by hand, French stick, hellmans and a bit of lemon to squeeze on.

Where do I start? If I had to eat the same meal every day it would be roast chicken, carrots, sprouts, swede, peas, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.

What sauce do you use please?

WhassatNow · 05/02/2025 19:28

Roast rib of beef with broccoli, carrots, peas, roast potatoes and roast parsnips, preceded by Yorkshire puddings and gravy.

PollyCreo · 05/02/2025 19:30

I had a craving today for blue cheese on Paprika Tuc crackers. It was worth every calorie 🧀

sprigatito · 05/02/2025 19:33

At the moment my food obsessions are:

Homemade shepherds pie with gravy and a huge pile of steamed green vegetables

Full fat Greek yogurt with homemade apple and blueberry compote

Steak pie with mash, gravy and cabbage

Homemade apple and plum crumble with custard

Ooh, yes please!
I love a really good, cheesy risotto. I had one in a restaurant once that I still think about years later.
