What are you doing for your mental health?

I feel like I’m running on empty a lot of the time.. trying to get everything done for the kids, life admin, etc on top of a full time job. I feel like I’ve lost ‘me’ a little bit. DH is great and definitely takes on his half of the load but he works nights so there isn’t much in the way of time for me to get out and do something for just me. Just look by for little ideas on how to keep myself sane while in this whirlwind life phase!

Hello! I made some big changes in 2024 that really helped me

  1. Changed from FT to PT job
  2. Got healthy, started eating better, lost over a stone.
  3. 30 mins walk every day (or most days a week)
  4. Recently trying to make sure my hair looks nice and tidy, not always frizzy and like I can't be bothered.
  5. Telling myself it's better to do 5% of a task, than none at all.
  6. Realising even when I have 10 minutes I can wash a lot of dishes (applies to lots of tasks)
  7. Try to go outside if I have more than an hour to kill with the kids. They just drive me insane otherwise

I work in mental health so am aware of what could help me.

  1. Weekly therapy. This has been completely life changing as someone who grew up in a very dysfunctional home.
  2. I don’t take my phone into the bedroom so I can’t doom scroll in the evening.
  3. I schedule in 30 mins a day for myself.
  4. I have a hobby that I really enjoy doing and make it part of my daily routine.
  5. I don’t keep things bottled up (see point number 1).
  6. I practise good sleep hygiene.
  7. I acknowledge my privilege.

I see a counsellor once a week

I try to be more mindful and ‘present’ when out in nature (ie not constantly checking emails, phone etc)

I have begun to prioritise myself more

Regular exercise & healthy eating

I don’t work stupid hours anymore
