Hybrid or Petrol car?

more specifically DH & I have narrowed down our choices to a Kia Sportage or Nissan Qashqai - hoping for an automatic, around 1-2 years old.

particularly when browsing the Sportages online this morning they have petrol or hybrid options - I do alot of short journeys, ie I leave my house in the morning, drive 2 miles to school, then leave the school and drive approx 3 miles to work. i do the same in reverse in the afternoon.

On the weekend theres a bit more driving, if I visit relatives (likely every week or every other) they live 30 miles away.

Hybrid models on the sportage say 49 mpg, petrol say 44mpg.

What do I go for? , what do other people have?

If you do mainly short journeys, would you consider electric?

The issue with hybrid is that you have a petrol engine lugging around a battery, and a battery having to lug around an engine. You have compromised potential efficiency on both fronts. And twice as much to go wrong.

We have 2 EVs, and they cost about £4-£5 to charge mine (for 200 ish miles) and c£7 to charge DH's (for 260ish). In 2 years of owning them, we have charged away from home only a handful of times.

Stay away from the dogshit Nissan - unreliable tat.
