For me some reason one memorable one is, someone telling me, they wish they had my style

OP posts:
CarliLove35 · 03/02/2025 09:16

My adult son, telling me I was a beautiful young woman (after looking at old photos) and still beautiful now, in my 60s.

Dazedandconfusedma · 03/02/2025 09:19

An ex boyfriend once told me he loved my knees, probably the most random compliment I’ve had and I never forget it!

GoldMoon · 03/02/2025 09:21

Was in a restuarant/ pub years ago with dh , and an older couple kept looking over .
When they were leaving the woman came over and said,I had beautiful eyes and her husband is an artist and said I would be lovely to paint .
A few years later was at a garden show and a stall holder mentioned my eyes as well .
Fast forward the years and my baggy , hooded eyelids has shut down any more compliements !

With my non effusive measured 18 year old on holiday just after her birthday I laughed and said I had been a crap mum about something and she said very seriously “no you have been a great mum”. Best compliment ever.

Jewelanemone · 03/02/2025 09:21

I used to work as a barristers' clerk, and a visiting female barrister once described me as 'luscious' 🙂

An ex boyfriend once told me I had beautiful skin on my shoulders.

ThatWildMintSloth · 03/02/2025 09:21

I was food shopping, doing self checkout and a female staff member, who helped somebody on the next till, turned to me after and said that she really loved the scent I was wearing and asked what it was. I wasnt wearing any perfume!

myotherusernamesarebetter · 03/02/2025 09:22

A complete stranger told me I had a beautiful singing voice.

My abusive ex had convinced me I couldn’t sing, and this was the start of me realising I can.

Being stopped by a random girl when walking into a shop to tell me she loved my dress

Borka · 03/02/2025 09:24

Having a refresher driving lesson after not driving for 10 years, the instructor said 'Nice clutch control'. It makes me smile whenever I think about it!

Devilsmommy · 03/02/2025 09:25

Being stopped in the street and asked what gym I go to as I look great. Felt bad as I'm not a gym goer in the slightest 😅

Winterscoming77 · 03/02/2025 09:27

A (male) client told me I had a very rare ability to hold multiple realities as truths and that made me super strategic and smart.

As a lifeline natural blonde with big boobs who worked and lived through the 90s it stopped me in my tracks.

I’ve been told nice tits approx 1000 times, but to be noticed for my brain was fabulous

TickingAlongNicely · 03/02/2025 09:28

"You are too normal to be an Officers wife".

Army camps can be odd places....

LittleRedRidingHoody · 03/02/2025 09:28

A woman in a random McDonalds toilets I'd popped into to have a private little cry on a date that ended in a breakup! I hadn't even started crying yet and she started gushing over my (perfectly normal L'Oréal) lipgloss! I had been feeling ugly AF that day so it really put a spring in my step.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 03/02/2025 09:29

A colleague was taking a new team member around the office to introduce her to us all. When introducing her to me she said 'This is Bats, when she smiles it's like being greeted by sunshine'. I was really touched, such a sweet thing to say.

BeyondMyWits · 03/02/2025 09:29

Walking through Disney, Florida... a tired, hot, sweaty mess and an American lady came up and said "You are rocking that dress... you look amazing"
27 years ago!!! I often wonder if she knew just how long her kindness would be remembered.

ARichtGoodDram · 03/02/2025 09:31

The nicest ever was "You're a wonderful Mum to my grandson. My DD would be so happy" from my DH's MIL for the first time.

It must be so hard for her to have lost her daughter criminally young and then over the years see DH meet me and me spend time doing things with her grandson that her daughter should have been doing.

LaTristesseDureraToujours · 03/02/2025 09:33

One of my stepdaughter’s friends at an awards evening at their high school came over and said she thought my style was really cool and liked my clothes and how I wore them. This girl was definitely the kind of quirky artistic type I’d have wanted to look EXACTLY like in high school so I was really touched that she came over and said something so sweet. I was only wearing some old combats and an oversized Manic Street Preachers longsleeve (baggy enough to cover my postpartum belly) so wasn’t wearing anything special, but made me feel so happy for days after. I think it was something I needed to hear as I’d already started slipping into that phase of motherhood where you’ve totally lost any sense of yourself and your interests and I felt like a real person again for a moment.

Mysteryfemale · 03/02/2025 09:35

A lady on the train who told me out of nowhere that she loved my lipstick and it really suited me. (MAC Gutsy - it’s a bright orangey red). Put a spring in my step all day. I make a point of paying forward the unsolicited compliments to other women - most recently a woman in her 70s rocking silver leather trousers at 9am.

Unorganisedchaos2 · 03/02/2025 09:39

When I was pregnant the midwife commented that she always happy to see my my urine sample as its was always very clear and asked if Id been complimented on my urine before - I confirmed that was the first time 😁

TorroFerney · 03/02/2025 09:39

You are the most self aware person I know. From my boss. Obviously I had to be self deprecating and say I dread to think who you know but it really pleased me. Have done a lot of work on „stuff“ after a difficult childhood which had affected me more than I’d realised.

oh and a young very stylish woman in Hollister telling me she loved my coat. Am 52 and was in there with my daughter.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 03/02/2025 09:41

A girl working the checkout in Asda told me she loved my bag! Its a converse bag i've had for about 20 years!

Also my granddaughter walked past me on Christmas day and said i love your hair and stroked me, she's 3 ❤

Poppymeldrum · 03/02/2025 10:12

Dp once told me I have 'really nice, skinny and smooth elbows'
Only part of me that is skinny

I'm always getting comments on my eyes
I've always wanted chocolate brown eyes, but ended up with not quite blue/green/grey eyes

I hated them as a kid but don't mind them now

T4phage · 03/02/2025 11:41

The four year old priest's daughter at church referred to me as "that girl". I'm 55 😂

catlesslady · 03/02/2025 12:01

Years ago I was commuting to work by train and a couple of young people were asking people nearby if anyone knew times for trains back later in the day. I happened to have a train timetable leaflet in my bag (in the days before train time apps etc) so I gave it to them. An older man further up the train came up to me as he got off and told me he'd seen what I did and I was 'one of the good people in the world'.

IpanemaMeisje · 03/02/2025 12:10

I’ve had lots of nice compliments about my looks over the years but the comment that stayed with me was when someone described me as ‘good in a crisis’.

I hadn’t really thought about it before, but yes I’m that calm, reliable person.
