A friend once told me that I'm the most lovable person they know.

Travelling in India and an Israeli man remarking on my lack of jewellery: "It is like you are saying 'I am beautiful without adornment.' " Such a clever indirect compliment.

Also at the airport coming home having culturally appropriated lovely comfy salwar kameez and an Indian man came over, gestured towards a smiling elderly lady and said "My mother wanted me to tell you, you are looking very nice in Indian clothes."

I once had to follow a hearse and official funeral car from someone's house to the crematorium. It was about two miles of driving in an outer London suburb.

When we got to the crematorium the driver of the car complimented my driving.

Ruthietuthie · 03/02/2025 23:48

That I looked like a posh mermaid.

Everestisthebest · 03/02/2025 23:57

I once got told by a group of young boys that they liked my "kicks" aka trainers. I was chuffed 😂

At work in healthcare, a patient told me I had beautiful eyebrows and that they were like Portuguese eyebrows.

I'm not sure I know what makes them Portuguese but I'm still proud of my eyebrows 10 years on.

Being sat on the tram age 20, wearing sun glasses. Two black guys sit down opposite, facing me.

After a while I decide to take off my sun glasses and one guy says "wow, look at this woman's eyes!"
The other says "oh yeah they're absolutely beautiful aren't they!"

And I just sat there, dumb founded and nearly crying.

That was it, we parted ways and that was that. This was about 27 years ago now.

Never forgot how they made me feel.

I have blue/green eyes in case anyone is wondering! Not particularly special!

I've been told I have a nice cervix by a couple of medical professionals.

I've been told I have a nice cervix by a couple of medical professionals.

I was told "Your cervix is tilted!" in aggrieved tones, as if I'd tilted it myself just to be awkward 😂

Two of my trainees, after they'd moved on to attain stratospheric heights, named me in their "manager who made me" interviews with trade press. I was bowled over both times, they accurately reflected the qualities I'd tried to develop in them 😍

when i was about 13, a random little boy at the beach told my sister that I looked like a doll. My sister, about 15 at the time, asked him why he thought that. He said I had doll hair (a perm) and doll skin (pale). I took it as a compliment!

An ex SAS driving instructor telling me I was excellent at calm control of a jeep across rough hilly terrain and that my listening skills and clear thinking in stressful situations were impressive. He'd trust me in an emergency.
I get pleasant flashbacks of being told that amongst a group of men oozing sexism yowards me. He then proceeded to rip into them for their lack of skills.

WetBandits · 04/02/2025 02:35

I was looking after a palliative patient and had visited him several times over two shifts to try and get his pain under control. I was setting up a syringe driver for him when he reached for my hand and told me that I had given him his last bit of sunshine with my visits. He died that night and I’ll never forget what he said, he was a lovely man.

MrsMorrisey · 04/02/2025 03:33

My eyebrows are nice.
My hair is nice and I have a lovely neck.

ThePolarBearWhoLostHisCrown · 04/02/2025 12:04

"You look lovely. I am very very drunk".

raralalala · 04/02/2025 12:06

someone once said I had a very French dressing style. I was so chuffed with that, as French women are so elegant and stylish

WTF99 · 04/02/2025 12:12

At a work do where partners were invited. Introduced my DP to colleague who said 'WTF99 is the kindest person I know'
Always gives me a little glow when I think about that

honeylulu · 04/02/2025 13:00

"I wish I had a daughter like you".

Was so surprised and moved by that. My own parents think I'm a waste of space.

Someone on holiday a couple of years ago came up to me in the bar and said I hope you don't mind but I overheard you and your children talking on the beach the other day and they are so lovely and polite, an absolute credit to you, I thought what a lovely family.

(As a disclaimer to the above it was the day we had arrived and the kids had been really excited with everything and kept saying "thank you for booking this holiday mum, it's amazing". They were back to their less charming/cheeky selves a couple of days later! I didn't tell the lady that bit, I was too busy enjoying the lovely warm feeling of her compliment!)

Dontlletmedownbruce · 04/02/2025 13:08

My DD 10 said I always know exactly what to say and do to make people feel better. A neighbour also said I have a natural way of making people feel comfortable. I think I need another me in my life to make me feel better!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 04/02/2025 13:28

My baby DS was really beautiful but everyone says that mothers think their own baby is more beautiful that anyone else, so I convinced myself that I was a bit delusional and he was just an ordinary baby. One day I was sitting in a cafe and a group of teenage girls were looking over at him then talking among themselves. When I got up to leave I said goodbye and one girl told me they were saying they wouldn't mind getting pregnant if they got one like him. I was horrified but also secretly delighted 😀

YogaLite · 04/02/2025 13:57

Quite recently a lady approached me complimenting my hair and asking where I had it done as she thought I was straight out of the hairdressers.

I had to blush and admit it was all diy, I hadn't even styled it that day 😊 she said I should be a hairdresser!

OSU · 04/02/2025 14:06

I have had a few abdominal ultrasounds over the years and every time, the sonographer has complimented me on my lovely shiny healthy looking liver. This felt very pleasing. Especially the last scan I had was because my liver bloods were 'deranged' and I was given a scan to check for liver cancer. So my liver was pissed off at something but made an effort to look good for the scan 😁.

Also been told on quite a few occasions I was the best boss people had had. That felt lovely.

LordJohnGrey · 04/02/2025 14:16

Told by a Mum who i childminder for " I would trust my child with you any day, he is so loved here. " after she came in to find us both curled up on the sofa just watching the fire after all the other children had gone.

MayfairRose · 08/02/2025 20:56

ThePolarBearWhoLostHisCrown · 04/02/2025 12:04

"You look lovely. I am very very drunk".

Haha, well they do say "in vino veritas" (truth in wine)

OohKittens · 08/02/2025 21:05

A woman came up to me in the cavern last May when I was dancing just to tell me I looked amazing and she couldn't stop watching me because I was glowing. This will live with me forever especially because I had a complete nervous breakdown in the March.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/03/2025 18:18

‘Thank you for making a nice home’, from dh - and he didn’t mean the decor or my standards of housekeeping. It was after a visit from a BiL whose home life with his soon to be ex wife (divorce not his fault) was very unhappy at the time.
