Can you drink alcohol and not snack?

I have cut out snacking in the evenings to loose weight and help my indigestion.

On weekend evenings I like to have a glass of wine as a treat (I don’t drink during the week). The problem is it then makes me want to snack. Obviously I know alcohol is an appetite stimulant and makes you hungry. I just thought that feeling would wear off but it’s a fight every time. I guess the answer is to give up the wine but I don’t want to!

Has anyone successfully been able to break the alcohol equals snacking challenge? I guess it’s just will power?

I’ve never found this to be honest, sometimes the opposite unless drunk so I wonder if it’s actually just more a habit that you need to break than alcohol actually stimulating appetite

Wine stops me snacking! I never have snacks alongside a glass of wine.

I just never buy the snacks, don't have them, can't eat them.
Oh yes, it's hard not to prowl around the house looking in cupboards and hoping to find some forgotten something.
I also stopped buying wine lately.
It's an expensive habit, when you get used to it always being available, so far, I'm doing well and have lost a bit of weight as yes, without the appetite stimulant, I don't feel like eating as much as I did.

maybe its thirst - I know alcohol makes you more thirsty. perhaps a glass of water might help!?

Yes, same here.

I like a white wine and soda and never feel hungry.

Oddly enough, lager makes me ravenous!

I found that stopping buying my favourite crisp flavours and keeping bread in the freezer so it wasn't freely to hand really cut down my main snacking

As alternatives (although I appreciate this substitutes rather than gets you out of the habit)

Gherkins and pickled onions so I get an intense salty crunch

Or a cracker with a drizzle of sriracha or peri peri instead of butter or cheese

Yeah always, cannot drink wine without snacking! When trying to lose weight but still wanting wine (which admittedly hasn't happened for a while but should) I would buy those bags of mini breadsticks or French frie types crisps which are much lower calorie than normal ones. Eaten alongside a baby bel or small lump of cheese cut up into tiny cubes. Did lose over 3 stone this way without giving up wine. (notet o self need to do it again)🤔

Glad it’s not just me! Wow well done for loosing all that weight.

Thanks everyone. I think I just need to work harder at giving up the connection or just stop drinking wine!

I agree with having a glass of water alongside your wine. Sip on that instead of snacking.

Chillilounger · 30/01/2025 07:52

Just don't have snacks in. I usually tell myself one or the other so if I want a snack I will think that's my treat no wine or vice versa. I don't drink or snack often though so probably easier.
