Weird smell in one room-any ideas?

Our spare bedroom absolutely stinks, it's a mildew type smell crossed with rancid milk. I know next door have had a plumbing issue which caused a water leak through their ceiling. Other than that we're stumped. There's nothing going on in the attic, no damp patches anywhere, no black mould, carpets clean. We can't work out where it's coming from, it just seems to be in the air.

I've bought some of those stink absorbers but they're not making any difference.

Any suggestions please 🙏

Dead mouse /rat ?

could someone split something on the mattress?

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 29/01/2025 18:56

Dead rodent smells like kind of mouldy old sweat and lingers for a good 3 weeks.

Check the curtains.

All soft furnishings are fine, mattress is fine.

Ah now, we did have a visitor in the attic when it snowed a few weeks back, only for 1 night, it sounded like a rat. No sign of it in the attic though and the attic doesn't smell.

Could it have died in the wall?!

If it is a dead rat, will the smell eventually just go? I'm guessing once it's decomposed? 🤢

Oh that's horrible! Is there anything we should/could do?

We had dead rats under the floorboards at work. Smell took about 6 or 7 weeks to go because the cold slowed down the process. Was truly awful
