Bedbugs, I’m distraught, can’t sleep feel terrible

Hi, just wondering if there is anyone out there I can talk to about bed bugs. Since Xmas we noticed black dots in our bedding, threw everything bedding wise out, pillows, duvet, sheets etc much to the horror of my husband. Moved to spare room, stupidly. Woke up bitten, only me and black dots in the bed. We threw the mattress out into the garden whilst waiting for council collection.
have booked a professional bug buster for tomorrow but I’m beside myself, I haven’t slept for a week, I feel so unwell, can’t eat and spend the whole night shining a torch. This probably sounds pathetic I know considering how seriously unwell some people are but I have no one to talk to.

Ok. Calm down Smile
This was me 2 years ago when we had the same experience... Dh was bitten first and then when it dawned on us what it could be we discovered bed bugs (presume dh brought them home as he sometimes has to work away)
We stripped the room clean that night... everything. Bed, bed frame, wardrobes drawers, carpet!!
We contacted the local council who arranged to come and fumigate the house ..there was no evidence in other rooms/beds but were told that they have to do the whole house.
We had to : boil wash and tumble all clothes, all bedding, cushions etc...ended up costing a fortune doing it both at home and at the launderette.
ALL furniture throughout the house had to be pulled into the middle of the room ..bookcases emptied etc (nightmare as we have 5 huge ones )

Man came and sprayed every inch of the house.
Once done, we got some diatomaceus earth from Amazon (it kills bed bugs slowly ) and put it in the cracks of the floor boards. Got new furniture and decided to put posh lino in the bedrooms so no carpet..just new rugs. New furniture and beds (well overdue for a new room)

Finally slept well again!!!!
Honestly I felt like you...horrified, disgusted and disgusting; I have a clean home! But Bedbugs can hitch a ride many ways and it's just bad luck!

They will be vanquished and in the mean time... get washing and tumbling, shift the furniture and stop panicking. They are not going to do you any major harm in reality!

Thank you for getting back to me. Another night pacing the floor. We travel a lot so I’m sure this is where they have come from. Ironically I was cabin crew for 28 years until Covid and never had a problem. We have emptied cupboards, steam washed everything we can, thrown out bedding etc. they are in every room, I want to throw out our bed but it cost a fortune. Professional coming today, we are moving into a premier inn because my husband has asthma. It’s really comforting to hear someone managed to get rid of the buggers! Thank you

Okay calm down!
Start getting your clothes, towels and any removable soft furnishings/ soft toys etc bagged up and if possible get them out of the house ready to go to the laundrette (much easier to wash there and avoids any cross contamination at home!).
Move any furniture away from the wall ready for the fumigation, I would give everything a good hoover but remember when you empty the hoover to take it outside and bag the contents.
It will be fine!

Diatomaceous Earth. And a week off work to sort it. Sorry OP.

Thanks for you reply. I have ordered the powder. We have steamed house top to bottom, bagged up as much as we can but it’s a 4 bed house so everything is in one room. Had to throw all bedding away again today, my husband is so stressed too, we haven’t stopped arguing, first time ever. Good for weight loss

No point throwing bedding away. Bedbugs only come out when you're in the bed and settle under skirting boards and seams of the mattress. Use a hand held steamer and steam these areas every couple of days. It worked for me. Good luck.

Maybe wait for the professionals to come and fumigate everything in situ rather than spreading potentially bug / egg infested items up and down stairs and to the waste services?

Also please spray and vacuum any bags / clothes you take into a Premier Inn.

i get the upset, I really do, we had to leave an infested hotel and bring all our stuff back to boil / freeze / microwave/ spray.

Good luck!

We buy the sprays from b and q. It's the same as a professional would use.

Launderette service washes for everything.

New mattress but a few weeks down the line as we wanted the bugs to die first

Hoover everywhere and empty the hoover

It's fine

Thank you, yes we steam cleaned our bag for the hotel and it’s in the boot of the car packed with all the washed clothes. I’m just freaking out because 5 years ago we had rats through a cracked sewage pipe but our insurance paid up £6,000 to get that sorted because pipe was not on our drive. We live in a house of horrors! Even our daughter won’t meet up with us now, I know I’m being pathetic considering how unwell some people are but it’s been great talking to people who have experienced this, thank you so much all of you
