I am terrible at this puzzle!

I’d love to know from people who get high scores, what gives them clues. I always try to look at women’s clothes or cars but my knowledge of both obviously isn’t that great!
In today’s first photo (ice hockey), how did anyone get a reasonable score.

@EggandStress It's partly practice - I've been playing it for a few years, and sometimes do a few rounds during the day, and you get your eye in.

My ice hockey score wasn't great, but factors included - sports kit looked as if it was made from pre-modern textiles, colour looked like prints photos from a particular decade. Considering my ignorance of sport and the lack of clues I feel pleased to have got within eight years.

Agree with @DeanElderberry's comments above (and Dean almost always gets a higher score than me). Practice does definitely help.
I'd add that vehicles are a great help to me - styles changed a lot over the decades and if you assume the average lifespan of a car was probably only about 5 years that often gives a pretty good indication of year.
The ice hockey one for me today was a lucky guess, I was juggling two different dates - if I'd picked the other one it would have been zero.

Back to very mediocre! Had a shocker for the first two rounds. I was so far out with the ice hockey one.!

@EggandStress I am not really a high scorer in general but have improved in time. Learnt more about cars, fashions and wars. Also good tip from Dean about the quality of the photo - that has helped me. And zoom
in to see if you can see any dates. Occasionally there are some.

But often it’s very tricky!
