Exciting party bags ideas that aren't tat

Joint kids birthday so saving money there so I'd like to do something nice/different for the party bags without blowing the budget and limiting sweets and plastic.

So far they have a box of smarties, a bamboo flyer toy, personalised grow your own sunflower seeds and a sticker kit where you make an animal face. They are also getting a cupcake in a box to take home.

It's all a bit light so I'd like to add a couple of things to fill the bag a bit more. Both boys and girls attending, age range 4-6. Thanks so much.

That’s plenty OP

Plenty. I used to do one book and a small box of smarties. Never had any complaints that there wasn't enough.

bakewellbride · 18/01/2025 17:36

You've got 4 nice things plus cake. Thats what I usually do and u often get lots of nice compliments on my party bags, you'll be fine op x

I not u

SapphireOpal · 18/01/2025 17:36

That sounds like loads to me OP!

Bubbles? Some sort of stationery?

AKettleOfDifferentFish · 18/01/2025 17:36

Agree that you already have plenty!

100PercentFaithful · 18/01/2025 17:37

That’s loads OP. You don’t need any more.

CatStoleMyChocolate · 18/01/2025 17:38

I agree you don’t need any more but if you want ideas, I found lots of plastic-free party bag fillers at this website: thecuriouscaterpillar.co.uk/?srsltid=AfmBOorQNotc3NWEbIESZCDPPo7mF5bLJJRs4Y3wQV699rVmMdvRgk2T

I think it's enough.

We recently got a pack of mini coloring pencils and a mini coloring book and my girls were delighted.

Well people are not going to tell you if they're not very good but party bags are not obligatory and you can do as little or as much as you like

mitogoshigg · 18/01/2025 17:39

Plenty but bubbles is a good option if you want something more

Because of the time of year, it worked, I used to do an Easter egg for each child. Could get quite a decent sized one for a fairly good price and it went down well.

I was talking about from the children not the parents. 4yos are quite capable of at least looking disappointed if they think the bag is a little low on expectations even if they have learnt enough social graces not to express it. 😁

LegoBingo · 18/01/2025 20:47

That's enough. Just because it's not plastic doesn't mean it's not unwanted tat.

TCCOS · 18/01/2025 20:47

That’s loads, although IME children are thrilled with anything (as they should be).

You have them a symbol of the celebration the death and resurrection of Jesus at a birthday party?

Parker231 · 18/01/2025 20:48

Before school age we did party bags with a small toy, book or bubbles etc but once they started school we just did a piece of cake and a balloon to take home. Everyone was happy and it was easy and straightforward.

Children aren’t going to think that - they will just see chocolate.

LegoBingo · 18/01/2025 20:49

There's also no point personalising the sunflower seeds - that's a waste of money

Then give them chocolate in standard and cheaper format

Same! Kids loved it and super easy to do. Didn’t need to buy bags either!

Children like Easter eggs in colourful foil wrapping More interesting and fun and a bar of Cadbury.

Bournetilly · 18/01/2025 20:53

That’s plenty. If you really want to get more then sweets, snap bands, key ring, temp tattoos, stickers. I agree with what PP said though, just because it’s not plastic doesn’t mean it’s not tat. Most of it just ends up in the bin.

Im just doing sweet cones at my DCs next party, then I know they won’t be wasted.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 18/01/2025 20:54

I would pop in a book - maybe a puzzle book, if not a reading book. I understand wanting to give a decent party bag as it’s a shared party as the guests will be buying 2 gifts.
