Party invitations / people have no manners

I have read a lot of things about how flakey and rude people have become since Covid when it comes to replying to invitations / making commitments etc.

I sent out invitations to my DD's party and had to cancel/postpone it because almost nobody replied except a few people. I'm not keen to reschedule another one and potentially lose another £100 deposit..One person came up to me in person and enthusiastically accepted the invitation, only to text me 2 hours later to say she wasn't able to come after all because she had other plans. It's a very small class size so replies are important of course.

Another child has a party this week and their parent has had similar problems from what their mum told me.

This isn't how things were when my older children were little. I've never had to cancel a party before!

I don’t get it tbh, I take mine to every single party. I went to one where hardly any kids showed up once and after that I gave a firm commitment and then followed through. Kids get excited about parties and I think it’s nice for mine to attend as well (they love parties).

It used to be the case that if you didn't hear from someone, usually they were coming but you can't rely on that any more.

How someone can go from yes to no in 2 hours is odd.
