What wireless headphones for 35+ woman?!

My AirPod batteries are knackered so need to replace. Apprehensive to spend up to £200 on a pair again considering how poor the battery life has been and the amount of times I nearly lost them, considering the larger ones like Beats but not sure if I would look daft as a 30-something mum, I only tend to see younger women wearing them, what do you use?

(I use them when I go for a walk everyday just around my town, the gym and for the train, the first 2 is when I think I could look daft!)

I'm 35 and I wear big over ear ones and I think I look OK in them! I hate the feel of in ear ones

BuffyWillow · 14/01/2025 13:04

Depending on the type you like I have over-ear Bose Quiet Comfort headphones and they are amazing. They are pricey but I've had this set years and I use them daily and would replace them instantly if they got broken.

RobinHeartella · 14/01/2025 13:08

Mine are Sennheisers.

As an aside, I still very much identify as a youngish woman. I don't intend to stop wearing over ear headphones or doing any other "young person" stuff for many years! Is 35 considered middle aged?!

BIWI · 14/01/2025 13:08

What on earth does your age have to do with it?!

biscuitsandbooks · 14/01/2025 13:09

I have cheap AirPod knockoffs from Boots. Cost £20 and last ages.

MyIvyGrows · 14/01/2025 13:10

I had never considered being too old for certain headphones 😆 how strange! Buy what you like! I have both types as I prefer earbuds for running but cans for everyday.

I have some basic JBL ones which don’t look particularly stylish but have served me well for a long time now. My favourite brand is Urbanista.

I hate the in ear ones too and wouldn be without my Bose QuietComfort over ears headphones - use them everyday for my commute and listening to audiobooks while I do the weekly shop etc. They cost an arm and a leg but were worth every penny and still going strong five years later. I had to replace the ear cups since they got worn out but got cheap ones from Amazon rather than the very expensive Bose version. Perfect for walking around town and on the train but not sure they would work for the gym - I use Shockz for the gym. Shockz are great, most people can't even tell you are wearing them it you have long hair but they aren't noise-cancelling - I also wear them walking the dog when I want to be more aware of my surroundings

I’m 52 and wear my Beats every day! Have yet to spot any 23 year olds pointing and laughing at me.

I have the same headphones- are the ear cups easy to replace? As.mine have become very worn.
I'm 54 if that helps, OP.

MagpiePi · 14/01/2025 13:15

Oh lordy, I'm 57 and I wear my son's cast off Beats.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2025 13:16

Bose sound sport. The wire goes round your neck so you don't loose them.

NoisyBear · 14/01/2025 13:16

I have had a pair of 20quid airpod knock offs from amazon for the past 4 years. They never fall out of my ears, ever. I run and exercise with them and don't even notice they are in. I used to hate in ear headphones and found them really uncomfortable and they would always fall out but these have been one of my best purchases ever. I use them every single day, the battery life is great, they really feel like they were made for my ears they are so perfect.

These are the ones I have https://amzn.eu/d/7I79Sh5

Ineedanewsofa · 14/01/2025 13:23

I bought us all these last May for holiday and I’m very impressed so far https://amzn.eu/d/c7GWZQU
battery lasts ages and they feel secure in my ears (I normally hate in ear things!)
Bit rubbish for Teams calls/phone calls but great for listening to music/podcasts

JamieFraserskneewarmer · 14/01/2025 13:25

@Notmanyleftnow yes - really easy to replace, took less than 5 mins. The ones I got have a handy little plastic tool that you used to "tuck in" the edges

erinaceus · 14/01/2025 13:27

I swear by Urbanears Plattan 2 Bluetooth. They are cheap these days (<£30), stand up to quite a lot of wear and tear and work well. I find them comfortable. I rate them. I’m 40 and wear them loads, they’re a bit smaller than Beats and a less obtrusive look. You can get them in lots of colours.

MoonWoman69 · 14/01/2025 13:31

I got some Earfun rechargeable ones a few years ago and they are brilliant! The sound is crystal clear. They cost me about £56 and if they ever die, I shall be replacing them with the same!

pljlse · 14/01/2025 13:56

I just don't ever see anyone older than teens/young 20s wearing them, but I possibly just haven't noticed (I work in London!) all I can think of is Selena Gomez in Only Murders but she's much cooler than me 😂

Think I need to try some on, will keep my eyes peeled on the train home (guarantee I will see everyone wearing them!)

Maybe you can start a new trend?

Or maybe the fact that YOU don't think anyone else your age is wearing them just shows how little attention we pay to what other people do, and no-one will actually care if you wear the headphones that you want to wear. Just wear what you want instead of worrying what you feel you should be wearing. Why does it matter if a random stranger thinks you're off trend?

MasterOfOne · 14/01/2025 14:26

Over 40s here - love my over ear beats have used them for years commuting and working in office as an obvious "do not disturb" sign lol

Also have cheap in ear buds from amazon (search soundcore) great for using at home or when I want to keep one ear free

Sadsadworld · 14/01/2025 14:34

Have a look at bone conduction headphones, I have some from shokz with a microphone. It means you can maintain awareness of what's going on around you while on walks

jay55 · 14/01/2025 17:41

I have the Bose qc too and love them.
They're so good at cutting out plane/train noise when travelling I'd not want to make a journey without them.

cestlavielife · 14/01/2025 17:43

Just used what suits you.
Agree on bone conduction shokz as I don't like things on or in my ears
