I've just been offered an apprenticeship as a TA in a primary school so I'm just wanting to ask any teachers out there what makes a good TA and what makes a terrible one in your experience?

One that notices where help is needed without having to be directed and really listens to the teachers instructions so they are on the same page

All of the above op and more

Remember, because you are on the ground you will get to be just as clued up as the teacher as to who needs help and what sort of help.
In my experience there have been many highly qualified ta doing the job for whatever reason and it's down the teacher whether, they allow those skills to be utilised.

Unfortunately I know of ta who have incredible sen experience and skills and because the teacher and the head didn't understand sen or sen skills the ta wasn't officially allows to use her knowledge.

A good teacher will not feel threatened by an intelligent and qualified ta and will allow them to do their job but op, many are not like this so be aware.

So I would add, what makes a good ta? A good teacher
