Vinted refunded buyer ...anything I can do?

I sold a hair treatment
It arrived and the lid was smashed off so she could still use it but couldn't use the pump.
It was still full
She raised a issue and because I hadn't wrapped it or put it in a box (used a parcel bag and the product was in a box ) she has been refunded in full and she doesn't have to send it back.

Realistically she's got a free item

I think it's right she got a refund as it wasn't packaged properly. Vinted rules mean you have to use a Jiffy bag/bubble wrap rather than just a plastic mail bag.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 10/01/2025 12:16

Seems reasonable. Anything like that should be sensibly packed, and it clearly wasn't.

SJM1988 · 10/01/2025 12:16

Vinted T&C state you have to send things in a box securely packaged so there isn't anything you can do as you didn't do that. If she couldn't use it as it was intended then its right she was refunded
Only thing you might be able to do is claim with the courier it was damaged.

shouldve been in a box

Newtrix · 10/01/2025 13:37

Why did you not package it more securely? I'd have wanted a refund too.

FanofLeaves · 10/01/2025 13:39

I’d have done the same as she did if were me, she got a smashed item. It’s not like you’d be able to sell it on again if you had it back, is it?

SatinHeart · 10/01/2025 13:41

Maybe she was intending to give it to someone else and can't now because the lid is broken.

Nollybolly6 · 10/01/2025 13:44

Fair enough!

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 10/01/2025 13:56

Yeah sorry, that’s on you. I’d be complaining if my item arrived smashed because it wasn’t wrapped properly.

penguinparidd · 10/01/2025 14:19

It was totally my fault
I stupidly thought as the product box was padded it would be okay.

OP posts:
HauntedPencil · 10/01/2025 14:26

You wouldn't pay for a bottle of something that had arrived in that condition would you? I wouldn't.

penguinparidd · 10/01/2025 17:56

You would just think as they damaged it in transit
They would take some responsibility

Why? You just said it was totally your fault, so why would someone else take responsibility?

Who do you mean when you say they should take some responsibility?

What if the buyer bought it for a gift? They can hardly give it to someone like that, plus they haven’t received what they paid for.

Who?
Any such claim would be yours against the carrier wouldn't it?

penguinparidd · 10/01/2025 20:41

I mean the carrier
They must have been throwing the parcel around a lot to cause such damage

OP posts:
MagentaRocks · 10/01/2025 21:44

I expect the carrier will say it is on you to package properly.

Not being funny, OP, but you’re in for a shock when you find out how bags are loaded onto planes.

Then that’s for you to take up with the carrier. You’re the one with the contract with them.

The buyer has a contract with you, so claimed from you, as is her right.

I don't think she can as Vinted hold the courier contract.

But I agree with others, sounds like you didn't package it securely. Something with a breakable part needs adequate protection.
