Can anyone recommend shower alternative body wipes?

Soubriquet · 07/01/2025 19:39

I’m disabled and sometimes I really need to clean my body but I don’t have the energy for a shower or a bath. I sometimes can’t even stand long enough at the sink for a “whores bath”.

So can anyone recommend some wipes that can wash. I’m assuming baby wipes are not a good alternative. Not really

PS, sorry if I have offended anyone with the term whores bath

Please rethink your misogynist language.

She apologised for whore wash already, what's your point?
Would you prefer "pits, tits & lady bits"?

Baby wipes are a definite ok? It’s just I tend to be a bit pongy in the underarm area.

This might sound weird but I discovered that wiping the underarm area with a cloth or tissue dipped in mouthwash really works. It's minty and I guess the alcohol in it kills the bacteria.

Then why use it if she knows it will offend, as clearly she does otherwise she wouldn't have deemed it necessary to apologise in advance, which is meaningless.

Strip wash is one of the correct terms.

Randomontheinternet25 · 07/01/2025 22:22

@SereneCapybara hand sanitiser can be used too, its been suggested on other threads , think it's to do with alcohol

I'm so glad you've offered suggestions to help OP with her self care issue , that's so kind. Disabled people get a poor reception from some quarters.

Sou another vote for the fresh wipes. Baby wipes even the sensitive skin ones made my fingers sore. And they tear/rip unexpectedly too.

thesaskedminger · 07/01/2025 22:41

I use fresh wipes quite often when I can't manage to shower

Randomontheinternet25 · 07/01/2025 22:44

@Soubriquet whatever wipes you use none are flushable ( they might flush away but they cause issues in the sewer system) hopefully something on this thread will work for you

So do women . . . which is why the majority of us avoid disablist, ageist, and misogynist (etc) language.

It's a well known phrase for a strip wash , when I had surgery before Xmas a lady on my ward also used it, shock horror she was on her 70s. She even said it to her surgeon - he survived in case you were worried.

unsync · 07/01/2025 23:33

Do you have a perching stool? This would enable you to have a top and tail wash using hot water, soap and a flannel. It would be more economical for you in the long run. Have you had an OT visit to assess your aids requirements?

Just because other people use offensive language it doesn't make it any less offensive. It just means there are other ignorant people who think using language like 'whore' and 'tart' is OK. It isn't.

This is what I did when I was in a wheelchair. Wash cloth under the hot tap with a bit of soap ,wring it out and wipe. Didn't fill the sink up as I couldn't deal with deal with splashes on the floor.

I have CP and was unable to bath or shower for a year ( have wetroom now)
I used a brand called Nil aqua wipes
They come in a tub. They also do shampoo caps and waterless shampoo which you towel off
Both from Amazon but other sites are available.
Do ask for an OT assessment as they will advise and supply all sorts.
Bath lift might be helpful for you

My Dad and brother are disabled and bedbound with carer visits 4 x per day, unable to shower. Always buy these wipes and they are very good apparently.
