What would you do if you heard someone be openly homophobic in the workplace? would be interested in your views on these 2 different scenarios.

  1. if someone used a homophobic slur (the F word) to describe a colleague because they were wearing a brightly coloured shirt (both colleagues are straight)
  2. a work colleague told you during a lunchtime chat that they are very religious and do then being gay is a sin and all gay people will go to hell

I'd report them to their line manager. I'd say to them directly that a. I'm not interested in their religion and b. I don't want to hear their views.

  1. report to management because that is offensive language, regardless of if the person is straight or not.
  2. tell them to keep their narrow minded opinions to themselves as I wasn’t interested in listening to them.

1 - call them out then and there & report.

2 - we are all sinners. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, add a “dickhead” or “bellend” at the end, whatever feels right.
