Having a panic attack - anyone up?

Had a stressful day and just before bed I noticed the fingers in my right hand felt a bit weird and tingly. Started panicking about all sorts of health issues. Managed to get to sleep but have now woken up and feel like I'm having a panic attack. Obsessing about whether my fingers feel normal or not. Trying to do deep breathing but it's not helping.

I’m up - when I was very stressed many years ago both my hands tingled and I ended up with a neuro appointment

In conclusion - it was stress induced (had a whole bunch going on at that time) - and the body does weird and wonderful things to tell us we are overwhelmed Flowers

How can you give yourself some breathing room from what is going on?

@fivebyfivebuffy a 7kg cat!

@Foxgloverr tingly fingers is a symptom
of panic, I’ve had it before when I was on a boy trip (don’t ask🙈😂)

When you’re anxious your body prioritises where the blood goes and that’s why it happens.

It's a panic attack, tingly hands is a classic symptom and yes even if you notice the tingling before you were panicking. Also a classic sign.

You are fine, stop the what if thoughts and do something to occupy your mind eg a word game and just repeat you are ok.

Aww I love your cat, thank you!

It worries me that I've only got one tingly hand though. Wouldn't it normally be both?

Managed to fall asleep but woken up again and my hand is still feeling weird so it's setting off the adrenaline again.

Also getting loads of ectopics heartbeats but I'm prone to them and had it checked out. Another sign of stress.

I remember in Ted Lasso the manager guy (main character but forgotten his name) always got tingly hands as the first sign of a panic attack. But it was always both hands.

OK here are the things thr tingly hand could be:

Stress/panic/anxiety (most likely)
Medication side effect
Playing game earlier
Hit my right arm climbing into the loft earlier

Things my scared brain is telling me:

It's a scary degenerative neurological thing
Sign of a heart attack or stroke
Weird stress symptom but will never go away
It's a symptom of a rare disease that no one's heard of and is going to slowly kill me one finger at a time
I'm going insane

I'm not saying your hand thing is same as my experience but I've had permanent pins and needles before in my hand, which was a stress thing. It passed after 2 or 3 days.
Was very weird.
I'm a long time sufferer of stress, because my life seems to be constantly stressful, sometimes I roll with the punches, other times like just now I am struggling. The physiological symptoms I have just now is a fast heartbeat most days and disturbed sleep (just woke up) and has been ongoing since Christmas day.
I hope you feel better soon x

@fivebyfivebuffy what a cat! 😀

@Foxgloverr 💐 hope you got a bit of kip

Foxgloverr · 07/01/2025 09:36

Thank you everyone for helping me in the night. I did get a bit of sleep.

I do think the tingling is most likely stress but it's so hard when these weird symptoms cause me stress and then I get more weird symptoms and it's just a vicious circle.

My wrist and some of my fingers are actually aching this morning so not sure if I injured myself putting away the Christmas Dec's yesterday. I'm also wondering about rheumatoid arthritis as I've being investigated for autoimmune issues but all my bloods have come back normal.
