How long did you keep your new cat indoors?

I've only had him for one week, seen anything from 2 to 6 weeks online.
I don't have direct garden access sadly but I am on the ground floor. My other cat jumps in and out of my window but he's younger and this one's elderly and slightly frail so not sure he'll be able to do that.

Tried him with a lead/harness but he's not having any of it.

We kept ours in for about five days.

He was a young cat (not kitten) who was micro-chipped/ collared and trackable. It got to the point where he was getting distressed being inside and was actively trying to 'escape' all the time really so we let him out. We do have a garden though and we were able to go out with him so he could see us. He didn't go far the first day.
