What did you do/get your DP for his 40th?

My DH turns 40 this year. His birthday is quite close to Christmas so we don't usually do anything beyond an expensive bottle of wine and a takeaway.

But I'd like to mark his 40th a bit more. So I'm here for ideas. What did you do for your male DP's 40th?

A drive in a Ferrari around a race track.
He loved it. I booked it through the place itself, rather than one of those red letter/virgin experience things.

A surprise weekend at our home with oldest friends from Hong Kong, Tuscany and London. We were in Cornwall. He loved it 😊

A bird of prey experience and a party.

Doggymummar · 05/01/2025 15:14

We went to Singapore for two weeks. And Iceland for mine

frippit · 05/01/2025 15:15

Went to Scotland and climbed Schiehallion

I made him a photo album/scrapbook of all of our photos from all the time we have been together, everything we've done. The DC and I decorated it and he absolutely loved it. I got him an Apple Watch, some trainers and had a cake specially made. Family came round for a bit of a party, he didn't really want to do anything but he loved it.

For mine, he really upped the game. Mine was 7 months later. I got a Tiffany necklace and got taken to London for the weekend to do sightseeing and see a show. On the evening of my birthday he took me for a meal with family and I had a huge cake. I was really spoiled and had a lovely time.

Buy him 40 bits of cheap tat and give them to him in a cardboard box

Why? Unless she hates him 🤣

It's always holidays for us. Helps we are the same age and only a week apart so we can double up!

If it had to be a thing it would be tickets to his favourite sport or a special edition of his favourite whiskey.

A pool table - he’d had one on his wish list pretty much his entire life, so I bit the bullet. It’s also a dining table so my dining room doesn’t look like a pub!

CurbsideProphet · 05/01/2025 15:49

We had a 10 week baby so the 3 of us going for lunch at a nice pub and no one ending up crying was as good as it got for DH's 40th 😀

JC03745 · 05/01/2025 15:53

He used to sail, so we did a sailing day from Southampton for both of us and stayed the weekend there. Some things he's had others years:

-Flying experience. I bought the one using a 4 seater plane so I could go to
-Gliding experience
-Outdoor pizza oven
-BBQ smoker
-Specialist camera he wanted
-For mine, we went to Prague for a few days

Printedword · 05/01/2025 15:55

We went to Venice. I bought him a tie and a box set of an opera on CD (this was a while ago)

HEC2746 · 05/01/2025 15:56

A two night stay at l’Enclume with all the meals

foghead · 05/01/2025 16:00

A flying lesson in the morning, lunch out, family dinner

Limth · 05/01/2025 16:38

Some lovely presents here! Unfortunately we can't go away but I quite like the idea of 40 random things (not necessarily cheap tat) in a box 😅

We did vegas for his 40th (5 nights)

BrendaSmall · 05/01/2025 16:44

We don’t give to each other for birthdays, we go abroad 5/6 times a year so instead of presents we put the money away for that

reluctantbrit · 05/01/2025 17:20

A Mont Blanc fountain pen. He always wanted one, writes in ink since I know him and loves it.
