latest Tory advert Angry Despicable

That's disgusting.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/01/2025 13:32

To be fair - that's just a parody of the much criticised adverts that Labour put out - it's repellent but I didn't rate the Labour ones either.

Yes, I felt uncomfortable with those too.

Notonthestairs · 08/01/2025 14:07

I didn't know that the L/Ds had put forward their own amendment - lazy reading on my part. It is to implement in full the recommendations of the Jay Inquiry. More political oportunism although I agree that it should be a priority.

Politics driven by $ and attention seeking. All quite distasteful really.

Agree, the Tory advert is of the same grubby ilk as the Lab/Sunak one earlier this year.

Notonthestairs · 08/01/2025 14:08

i can spell opportunism sometimes!

BIossomtoes · 08/01/2025 14:11

The LibDem amendment (I hadn’t clocked it either) is really helpful if the government just accepts it. That would cut Badenoch off at the pass.

DuncinToffee · 08/01/2025 14:22

Car crash briefing with Kemi Badenoch spokesman in which he

  • Couldn't say if she'd ever raised grooming inside govt (having never mentioned it in the House)
  • Admitted she hasn't spoken to any survivors
  • Refused to condemn Elon Musk for attacks on Jess Phillips and said she's still a "fan" of his

Kemi Badenoch's spokesman refuses to say whether she believes Tommy Robinson should be in prison, saying "I'm not going to talk about Tommy Robinson"

Just listening to a bit of the debate on my lunch break. Damien Hinds is coming across as a fuckwit. He's clearly forgotten who was in charge for the last 14 years.

They fucked up education but he's behaving as though schools are all amazing and teachers part rainbows. Seriously he's deluded.

So did she lie in the House? Apart from the claim that she raised the issue in the House (I noticed that she she seemed to smirk when she said this, always a giveaway) didn't she say she had met with survivors?

Cheguevarahamster · 08/01/2025 14:36

Her spokesperson says that she didn't need to meet with victims, because she's read all about it in the media

Iirc, she said she met with Tavistock survivors

I have googled Tavistock and all I can find is the clinic. Is that what she was referring to?

ilovesooty · 08/01/2025 15:16

Well if she lied in the HOC it wouldn't be the first time she's done it.

She should not be allowed to get away with it. Imagine if Starmer had said he'd met with survivors and hadn't.

Sorry, yes she was referring to the Tavistock clinic.

She shoehorned that one in

Yes she got her arse handed to her by Starmer so she pivoted to the Cass report.

Notonthestairs · 08/01/2025 16:12

Looking at Rachel Cunliffe's article in the New Statesman (read on BlueSky) I don't think Badenoch lied -

"Starmer, in the politest tone possible, reminded the House that the Conservative leader never raised the issues of rape gangs when she was children’s minister or minister of women and equalities. “It’s only in recent days she’s jumped on the bandwagon,” he noted, inviting her to correct him if she had in fact raised it while in government. She did not. Badenoch tried to pivot to the work she has done on the Tavistock scandal about gender-questioning children, but it was an awkward deflection and sparked howls and jeers in the chamber. Later, Starmer referred to “her recently acquired view that it’s a scandal, having spent a lot of time on social media over Christmas”.

It's a good, measured article.

Ah. I get it now. That is why she mentioned being accused of transphobia. Sorry, was being dense.

Grr. Why didoes HQ allow this sort of shit stirring- this is repeating what Badenoch said at PMQs when she was trying to deflect.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5247809-all-party-group-to-define-islamophobia

bombastix · 08/01/2025 16:50

It is not Islamophobic under that definition to discuss a group of sex offenders who share a faith in Islam.

Anymore than it would be to discuss sex offenders in the Catholic Church who all asserted themselves to be Catholic.

If the law on this is to mean anything, then we should be looking at religious hatred in criminal law.

itsgettingweird · 08/01/2025 17:01

ilovesooty · 08/01/2025 15:16

Well if she lied in the HOC it wouldn't be the first time she's done it.

Which is why I'll never understand why it's against HoC to call a lie a lie.

All this semantic gymnastics to highlight lies.

It's no wonder people believe lies are truth. They are basically being led to.

bombastix · 08/01/2025 17:10

I am listening to the debate. Particularly Lowe, who seems to have a firm grip of what a government could do with sex offenders of dual nationality.

I would be watching out for him if I were Labour. The reality is that most of what he said is legally possible (some I agree with).

A much tougher attack than Badenoch and one in the long term that is likely to be effective if Labour aren't seen to use some of these powers

PandoraSox · 08/01/2025 17:40

"Will the government commit to urgently deporting all guilty foreign nationals involved, including family members who were aware of the crimes and therefore complicit? Wives, sisters, mothers, cousins – if they knew and said nothing these individuals are just as guilty as the rapist themselves"

Urgh. Lowe is vile. Do we punish the families of other criminals?

BornFreeButinChains · 08/01/2025 17:45

All over media now jess has said if the victims want an enquiry, we will give them one, that contradicts starmer and someone else has spoken about it and said something totally different.

There will definitely be some sort of new enquiry.
What an absolute shambles.
