Anyone listened to the Serial podcast?

I’ve had it recommended so many times so have binged it yesterday and today and just finished. Obviously it had me hooked, but I expected a twist. I can’t understand the controversy about the case? It is blatantly obvious that spoiler below

Adnan did it? Isn’t it?

It’s a brilliant podcast. I also enjoyed season 2 (though not as good as season 1).

Have you googled the latest news about the story? There was an update early 2024.

O6bftdff · 03/01/2025 21:46

I’ll start season two tomorrow. No I haven’t. I’ll do that right now.

The same people who made serial also made a podcast called S-Town which was fantastic and does have some twists and turns. I enjoyed it more than serial I think, I’d recommend it.

You have many many years of what's happened since Serial first came out to catch up on.

It's not obvious at all that he did it

Wow. What a rollercoaster since the podcast ended. Does anyone who knows the case well know what new evidence led to him being freed?

Im listening to The Prosecuters podcast on this case. The way they break it down is fascinating and they do refer to the Serial podcast too. They cover some really good cases.

I’ll give that a go. I listened to Serial saying it was so hard to decide, but every bit of me was thinking ‘eh? It seems entirely straightforward to me’. I really thought someone else must confess to setting him up at the end because the case against him seemed overwhelming.

S-Town was BRILLIANT! I went to re-listen to it recently but it's behind a paywall now

ChocAuVin · 04/01/2025 00:32

S-Town was fabulous.

I listened when it originally aired and thought Adnan did it but there wasn’t enough to convict.
Having listened to everything and re-listened to the original Serial, I’m 100% convinced he killed Hae

username299 · 04/01/2025 00:37

I absolutely loved Serial and also believed he was 100% guilty.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/01/2025 00:54

I think it is obvious he killed her, and I didn't think the podcast was worth all the recommendations. I hate when the victim is totally overlooked in the race to create content.

I listened to it pretty avidly when it first came out. Weirdly, my overriding impression was the lack of evidence for anything. I'm pretty convinced Adnan did it it but mostly because he's the boyfriend and there isn't really any evidence for anyone else and he's the boyfriend. I'm surprised that a podcast prompted a retrial/appeal/whatever happened, though.

Enko · 04/01/2025 09:49

Also loved it. Also loved Crime Weeklys deep dives into cases they have done one on Adnan too.

I thought there was loads of evidence. Adnan making sure he didn’t have a car so that he could ask Hae for a lift (frantically, ringing her multiple times). Not being able to account for his actions the day he’s told his ex-girlfriend is missing. The evidence that he was possessive in their relationship.

And most crucially, Jay’s testimony, which matched the phone mast pings.
