If it's clear where you are go out and look at it because it's absolutely beautiful. Proper crisp crescent with Venus beside. My phone camera can't do it justice unfortunately!

The moon tonight

The darker part of the moon is in fact lit up by the light of earth, which I find amazing too!

DreamW3aver · 03/01/2025 19:58

It's lovely, it's a shame a photo doesn't do it justice

Rosesgrowonyou · 03/01/2025 19:58

It is beautiful.

feellikeanalien · 03/01/2025 20:02

DD and I saw it on the way home tonight. It looks amazing. The stars are looking incredible tonight.

DD calls Venus "Daddy's star". DP died four years ago and every time she sees it she says he is keeping an eye on us.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 03/01/2025 20:13

I noticed while driving. It is amazing 🤩 good thread OP

TribulationPeriwinkle · 03/01/2025 20:14

I made DP come and gawp at it with me earlier. Fantastic!

DrivingThePlot · 03/01/2025 20:14

It's stunning. I was watching it from the passenger seat on our 2 hour drive home this evening, from dusk through to full dark. Beautiful.

Morethanthis71 · 03/01/2025 20:15

Yes it's incredible, was really clear from about 3pm when I went on a frosty walk with my son, and it's just got more and more beautiful.

MichelVandriving · 03/01/2025 20:20

It’s bloody freezing though.🥶🥶🥶
But beautiful night sky.🌙

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 03/01/2025 20:20

It's Venus. I think

ExtraDisorganised · 03/01/2025 20:24

Yes, I went out at 5.30 and saw it, stunning. My photos are poor quality but I've seen some amazing photos on FB

Skyview Lite (app) has some etheral music that accompanies you as you hold your phone up to the heavens.

X17 · 03/01/2025 20:47

Mars is to the South East, 45 degrees high. Jupiter is to the
'top right' at about 65 degrees.

Planets in our solar system do not 'blink' on a clear night. That is the main difference between stars and our planets. I think stars are more awesome though.

Sorry to hear about your dp xx.

what a beautiful way to remember him for your dd

DrivingThePlot · 03/01/2025 20:53

We're very lucky where we live that we can get a good view of the sky without much light pollution. DH & I just went out to look at the stars as it's so rare to get a clear and still night. So beautiful and we managed to see a couple of shooting stars. 3rd & 4th January the Quandrantids meteor shower is visible. I don't think I've ever seen the sky look so clear and beautiful as it does tonight.

Mankyhaven · 03/01/2025 21:04

It really is beautiful isn't it! I spotted it on the way home I could even see the dark part of the moon, amazing!!

Bless you.

frugalkitty · 03/01/2025 21:14

We saw this around 4pm on our walk. It really stood out as it was still light and nothing else in the sky. Googled to see what it was, but wish I'd taken a photo!

Squirrelsnut · 03/01/2025 21:59

It's gorgeous. My friend sent me a photo earlier, just after I'd been gazing at it!

We saw the tiny dot of Saturn last night too! Wonderful

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 03/01/2025 22:13

I am in Marrakech and it was a magical sight at sunset, from the rooftop of a riad, with the muezzins going off all around.

Hyperquiet · 03/01/2025 22:21

I was thinking the same thing. Beautiful.

Yes saw it earlier and noticed the lovely star beside it (Venus) So beautiful 🌙

Venus is a planet, not a star.
