What to drink if not alcohol?

I'm not doing dry January necessarily but as I'm getting older I think it would probably do me good to cut down on drinking. I drink approx. 1 bottle of wine a week, over 2 or 3 nights.

What I really like about drinking is the ritual - the nice glass, etc. - which is why a cup of tea or water won't cut it! So what do you drink when you're not drinking alcohol, say in a bar or out for dinner?

If I’m out, Coke Zero. When I’m home, the alcohol free white wine is ok, but fruity. Schweppes zero tonic is nice enough (ice + slice added) and there are reasonable alcohol free beer now.
As for tea, there are a host of teas or infusions with no caffeine. It’s trial and error to find what works for you. I love ginger beer, but it has a lot of sugar.

I like ginger beer or a grapefruit and soda /lemonade, or a mix of pineapple and grapefruit juice. Lemon & ginger tea is lovely too either hot or cooled down in a long glass with ice.

For me, elderflower cordial with some sort of fizzy drink, and some lemon and mint.

We drink kombucha in a wine glass.. get the little cans when they’re on special price. Not too sweet and in the wine glass still feels a bit fancy.
The one we keep returning to is Hip Pop 👍

The Shloer non alcoholic Pink Bubbly is nice. It almost tastes like it is alcoholic, but isn’t.

Cranberry & soda or pineapple & soda.

fivebyfivebuffy · 03/01/2025 08:14

The Aldi San pelligrino dupes! Orange or lemon with loads of ice in a nice glass

TakeMeDancing · 03/01/2025 08:20

I’m a teetotaller, and drink out of wine/champagne glasses: Diet Coke, Bottle Green sparkling drinks, Appletiser, San Pellegrino, J2O Spritz, Fever Tree, Belvoir sparkling drinks, etc. if it’s the ritual, get it in a champagne glass!

letshavetea · 03/01/2025 08:30

Alcohol free gin and fever tree tonic. The Mediterranean is nice.

Crunchymum · 03/01/2025 08:51

I like AF Leffe and Martini Vibrante.

Also a nice rose lemonade.

OneForTheRoadThen · 03/01/2025 08:53

I like the Trip CBD drinks, especially cucumber and mint

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 03/01/2025 09:20

I drink Elderflower cordial and soda when I'm out. Most pubs and restaurants have Elderflower cordial these days.

Occasionally a non alcoholic cocktail but they can get a bit sickly sweet.

Iamnotalemming · 03/01/2025 09:23

I love an AF gin and tonic, they're so good, and you get the ritual of ice and a slice etc when you make it.

loopyloo52 · 03/01/2025 09:24

I've been AF for 5 years.. I tend to drink AF beer, Guinness and Gin & Tonic. Often it'll just be fizzy water - the bubbles make it more interesting. There is so much AF choice out there now as opposed to 20 years ago. Just try to avoid replacing alcohol with sugary drinks as that is just as harmful in its own way.
