Anyone else completely wiped out after coughing virus that’s been going around?

I started feeling ill on Christmas Eve, horrible cough and sore throat, at one point chest was very rattley and coughing was awful. Now much better physically but I’m just exhausted. So much to do and I’m just sat wanting to sleep. I’m so bored of it now, want some energy. Luckily not in work until the 6th and older teens at home so don’t need to push through it, but wish I could. Normally the sun being out would really lift my mood, but not today.

Anyone else? Any ideas when I’ll start feeling better?

Don’t hold your breath, I’ve had mine since mid November and the coughing is only just starting to ease off now. I could still sleep all night and all day. I can’t remember the last time going upstairs didn’t feel like climbing a mountain.

I have had a virus since mid October. At no point have I had a sore throat though. It started with a productive cough and rattley chest. Mid Novemnber I had full on flu symptoms for eight days and I thought I had got over it but the productive cough and general awful flue feeling stayed.

The GP gave me a course of amoxycillin than I went to
A & E because I couldn't breathe but the snot on my lung tissue stopped the asthma drugs getting to where it needed to be. I was XRayed, had an ECG and bloods and sent home with another course of amoxy. I then went back to my GP as the amoxy made bugger all difference and I was in so much pain in my chest and exhausted from coughing constantly. I was put on Doxycycline which has given me more lung capacity but the productive cough is still here. I have been ill for months with it now and I feel like death. fuck 2025 if this is what it's like. I can barely function and am trying to recover from orthopaedic surgery too.

Me! Been ill since before Christmas, luckily saw a GP last Friday - my oxygen level was 93%, low blood pressure, high heart rate and temperature. Just finished a course of steroids and doxycycline today. Still coughing to the point that I’ve cancelled my dental appointment for Monday as there’s no way I’ll be able to keep still for the treatment.

Hope I can shift it over the weekend before normal life fully resumes next week and I can’t get away with doing so little!

@ErniesGhostlyGoldTops thats truly miserable. I only had a temperature on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, at one point I was coughing up a little blood and probably should have made a GP appointment then but didn’t. I’m only a little phlegmy now, but exhausted. I guess I’m probably still lucky to be over the worst 8 days in..

I've been coughing for nearly 3 weeks, no energy and can hardly sleep as keep waking up coughing. Sore throat keeps coming and going. Haven't bothered to see a Dr as sure they will just say it will go soon and not to worry.

BraveStarr · 02/01/2025 12:19

Yes OP, I could have written this!

I got ill on Christmas Eve, over the worst of it now but so tired and lacking in energy. It's so frustrating! It is depressing that I am hoping to be back to strength in time to go back to work on Monday!!

Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

How we all feeling? I’m still coughing at night, still exhausted. Did get to Sainsburys yesterday.

I fear the cough will never go…..

TheFairyCaravan · 04/01/2025 11:24

Me. I went to the GP on Thursday because I’ve got such a rattly chest and it hurts so much I’m sitting with a heat pad on it. She said it’s viral abny expect it last 3 weeks. 😩

Snowmanscarf · 04/01/2025 11:27

I got it 20th December and only felt like I’d turned a corner on Thursday, and that was with the help of antibiotics. I feel now my brain fog has cleared slightly, and I have sone energy. My coughing has subsided as well.
