Have you done it before, and if you did it once, does it make you more inclined to do it very year, or do you see it more as a bucket list did that once sort of thing?
I just got back from doing one, although tbf we are on Vancouver Island so not polar at all, it was a lovely 6 degrees and calm
I enjoyed it, a lot more people showed up than I thought there would be, it was no e not to be the only one

<waves from Northern Alberta>
It’s not so much the water temperature, but the air. It’s currently -29 with the windchill.

DH has a plunge tub in the basement. At least it’s warm when he gets out!

@MooseBeTimeForSnow happy new years!
At that temp I would only do it if I was coming out of ( and right back into) a sauna!

I swim outdoors all year anyway, so I don’t think it’s some sort of bucket list thing.
Like the NY resolution gym goers clogging the machines for a fortnight, it’s more of an annoyance having loads of new people turning up with selfie sticks, screaming about the water being cold………. 🙄

Yep this.

outdoor swimming is the best. For winter start going regularly over the summer and just don’t stop, the temperature drops significantly between October and November and that’s the best time for gradual acclimation. If you reach a point you want to add a wetsuit that’s fine too it’s all beneficial.
