Those who enjoy hosting parties, what do you enjoy about it?

Making people happy? Or more negative-sounding but perhaps valid, showing off? I don’t mean that as a dig as it could mean showing off cooking skills, being house proud, whatever. It could also be negative as in enjoying being the centre of attention. I never host as I think the pressure would eat me alive but some people thrive on it.

I like the prep before more than the actual party- having a project to plan, thinking creatively about how to make it fun.

Sanch1 · 30/12/2024 19:15

Socialising and having fun! Love the company of people, conversation, and we have a large enough space to have lots of people so we host more often.

Simonjt · 30/12/2024 19:15

I’m a feeder basically

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/12/2024 19:18

I think the best bit is waving them off at the door. 😝

Twitwootoo · 30/12/2024 19:18

I just enjoy it, it’s something I’ve always done as did my parents. Culturally it’s very much part of everyday life. I had 8 on Xmas, 12 yesterday, I’ve 5 in a couple of weeks and then another 6 a couple of weeks after that.

In roughly this order:

Enjoying the company of people I like

Introducing people who I think will get on

Seeing them get along and be relaxed together when they haven't met before

Planning and cooking

Impetus to sort the house out before people come over so that it looks how I actually want it to look rather than with the usual layer of toys, laundry etc

And yes, then showing off my house that I put a lot of effort into decorating!

I love it
! Hospitality is a huge part of my husband's religion, and we love hosting
We are both great cooks, and although our apartment is just average, with a tiny tiny kitchen, we like to make people feel welcome.
It's lovely to bring people together, especially those that don't have family around, or know lots of people.
We host dinners, games nights, movie night, feast days, all sorts really
We have made a lot of friends through our travels , and work, so it's nice when those people travel to our area an we get to host in return.

UnimaginableWindBird · 30/12/2024 19:24

I like parties and seeing my friends, but I also like staying at home, so if I host I get to do both at once.

ThePoshUns · 30/12/2024 19:25

I prefer socialising with friends at home.
More relaxing, no worries about taxis, cheaper drinks and food.
I've got a house that lends itself to a good kitchen disco.🪩

I like the prep. I like seeing people have fun, and enjoy facilitating that. I like it when they go.

My husband enjoys hosting, and I like the fact that the children see it as a normal thing to do. My son hosted all his friends for a party in the summer, and he looked just like his dad. Making sure they all had food and drink, and were entertained.

BondStreet · 30/12/2024 19:27

Love to make people happy, it’s as simple as that.

We hosted Saturday night and just had the best time, our parties are always legendary because we get everyone pissed up on my cocktails!

GiddyRobin · 30/12/2024 19:29

All of it! I love the prep and the cooking, the socialising and the games, dancing, being silly in general. DH and I go all out and decorate at Christmas Eve/New Year, and we make the buffets from scratch which is always fun. The DC come and do taste tests, help us set the table, etc. Choosing the playlists is always entertaining!

SneakyLilNameChange · 30/12/2024 19:29

Yeah it’s that warm feeling of looking around your home, all people you love or choose to be there having a nice time because of an atmosphere you’ve created.
I like showing off our home (it’s not a mansion but we love it!), bringing people together and letting them feel welcome.
We had 12 at Christmas then 24 of our friends and their kids a few days later, it was chaos but so lovely.

This is basically it. I'd always rather host than go somewhere else. The quicker I can just roll into my bed post-party, the better.

SneakyLilNameChange · 30/12/2024 19:30

And completely agree- setting an example for DC on the value of friendships and the benefits of a fun active social life!

OolongTeaDrinker · 30/12/2024 19:35

I would rather be at my home than someone else’s so I can be ‘busy’ with something in the kitchen if I need a breather, at other people’s houses as a guest you always need to be socially ‘on’; also I just like being home and would rather be here than anywhere else!

avaritablevampire · 30/12/2024 19:41

Just enjoy seeing my friends, I definitely don't enjoy all the tidying, shopping, prepping, and cooking, but I love my friends so all the stress before hand is worth it. The leftovers the next day also help make it worthwhile!

Dontlletmedownbruce · 30/12/2024 19:47

I like having people in my home, it feels very close and personal more than a restaurant. I also love that DH and I can both drink as much as we like without any discussion about designated drivers or buses or taxis. I do get a bit stressed so don't do it very often but I feel proud of myself and my home in the moment. It's also a lovely thing to do especially if friends don't get out much due to money restrictions, I get their company for the night in a way I wouldn't otherwise.

newyearsresolurion · 30/12/2024 19:53

Once in a while I've hosted for my child's 3rd birthday recently......... never again. But he had a great party so that's what matters.

Oblomov24 · 30/12/2024 20:04

I like hosting. The prep before is easy.

JRSKSSBH · 30/12/2024 20:05

Being invited back to more parties by my guests.

Sadly not with my friends 🙄
