We have 1.1% marked as ‘unauthorised’ but no explanation and I can’t work out is that 1 session or 2??!

That would depend on what time of the year it was being measured I think?

The last term so sep-dec? I don’t understand why there’s any unauthorised so trying to work out if it’s 1 day? 2 days?

Autumn term is probably 75 days depending on your inset at the beginning, or 150 sessions.

mumof1or2 · 29/12/2024 15:47

There have been about 75 days of school since September, but it's counted in sessions (morning and afternoon) so 150 sessions. Therefore 1% is about one and a half sessions. Could it be that they were late a few times?

SnowyIcySnow · 29/12/2024 15:49

I'd go with 3 sessions too.
So, a day and a half? Three mornings? Three afternoons, or a mixture of the above.

HPandthelastwish · 29/12/2024 15:50

If you weren't expecting any unauthorised attendances then it's probably turning up late after the register is closed.

usernother · 29/12/2024 15:53

You can ask for a printed out copy of attendance on the return to school. Then you'll be able to see.

TankFlyBoss · 29/12/2024 15:54

Ask for the full attendance certificate from the school and it will show you the exact mark for each session, and should also have a breakdown of numbers of each type of mark eg illness / late / present

Late is marked separately to unauthorised as we have 2 lates which I know about and understand it’s just the unauthorised that’s puzzling me ! I’ll have to call and ask when they are back as any absence was SEN or illness related so I’m puzzled !

I’ll check as there are 2 lates but listed separately to unauthorised

Lates have to be recorded within a set amount of time so for instance our registers are taken at 8.40, if they come in by 9 they are recorded as late. After this however it becomes unauthorised absence, so could it be you have been very late?

Around 930am each time so it could be that then ?

I’m just confused as late is a separate section to unauthorised. I’ll have to ask for the full record to see what it is

When you say SEN and illness-were they authorised?

HPandthelastwish · 29/12/2024 17:18

Yes but there is Authorised late - before the registers formally close, and unauthorised late - after the registers formally close and both will be recorded in the Late category on what you have access to but unauthorised will deduct from the attendance % whereas authorised don't.

This is what I need to check I think as I notified each time but I’m wondering if maybe something SEN related wasn’t (eg up all night so couldn’t attend or meltdown)
