It’s that time of year again!
If you need a detox, to lose weight, to be healthier, to undo some seasonal overindulgence, to sleep better, to look better, to have healthier skin, to save money, boost liver function, improve your memory, or to decrease your likelihood of dying earlier of various nasty illnesses (sorry for the sudden hard ball!) then you’ve come to the right place!

The MN DJ2025 Chat thread is for anyone who wants to reset their relationship with alcohol; whether you’re a weekend tippler or a problem heavier drinker.
This is a friendly, non-judgmental thread where we support and encourage each other, exchange ideas and information, share alcohol-free drinks recommendations etc.

Hopefully we’ll have some fun along the way. Please hop aboard the good ship DJ 2025, everyone welcome!

After struggling so much yesterday, I don’t feel the desire to have a drink at all this evening.
I’m off to Morrisons to pick up some fizzy drinks this evening, so will look out for some nice ones.

Waffle19 · 04/01/2025 16:15

I’m struggling with the want for a drink tonight. Had an early start with the kids and a full on but productive day. Really feel like rewarding myself and relaxing with a glass of wine once they’re in bed - not helped by the fact we have so much left over from Christmas. Surprised I’m struggling already, thought the first weekend would be easy!

I have decided to give zero fucks about calories until Monday and have just consumed a Jan donut with a decaf cup of tea as an alternative to going to the pub x

Christmas cake here! Yum.

only got a wee urge when I started cooking, as thats when I usually sink a couple but that passed. Once fed, didnt look for any - because I hadn't had any

this is it for me, too. If I get past 5-6pm and then dinner, the moment has passed. If allowed I will still have a glass, but it’s much easier not to (and if I do have one, it’s more likely to be just one or two than three or four).

I did mean a jam donut, although I'm prepared to accept Jan donuts as a thing 🤣

Saturday night without wine is shit 😭

I bought no alcohol kopperberg then poured it in a wine glass. It felt like a glass of wine. Would something like that work for you?

Fundays12 · 04/01/2025 17:39

Day 7 for me and that's the longest I have stayed of booze in year's. Tonight might be tricky though I have some no alcohol options available such as no alcohol gin and no alcohol kopperberg.

HPLikecraft · 04/01/2025 18:07

Saturday night beckons.
Plan your evening, be it socialising or watching telly, and get AF drinks and snacks ready and close to hand. If things get challenging, just focus on getting through the next hour. Then the next. Then it will be bedtime before you know it.

YOU can do this 💪💪

I just feel depressed without alcohol. If I could watch a film or something to take my mind off it that would help, but I can’t because of the DC.

What are you doing for the evening @newme2025

Does it help to think that no matter how low you feel now, you'll feel much lower in the morning with a hangover? x

StripyRedSocks · 04/01/2025 18:13

The herbal tea and the minty chocolates went down very well last night so tonight may be some dark chocolate batons and more peppermint tea, although am still stuffed from tea 😂. Am in my pyjamas already. I’ll have a bath and then get stuck into a book. First weekend hurdle (nearly) over! Tomorrow will be getting ready to go back to work.

TeaRose29 · 04/01/2025 18:13

Currently sipping Sentia and tonic with a slice of orange in a lovely glass. A bottle of Oddbird is in the fridge for after dinner. Dinner will be salmon wrapped in parma ham with pesto, salad and vegetables. I'm all set!

Bon courage, everyone. Stay strong!

Thanks - I will keep reminding myself of that!

fixingmylife · 04/01/2025 18:29

I did well earlier today when I found myself in a pub after a long walk. Everyone else was drinking pints and I had a non-alcoholic Guinness which I was very impressed with. I had heard good things about it, but hadn't tried it. Would recommend if you like Guinness.

Addictforanex · 04/01/2025 18:38

My crappy sleep was less crappy last night, so maybe that’s turning a corner. I’ve been gorging on quit lit audiobooks and podcasts and TV shows while getting about my life and it’s sufficiently turned me off booze for tonight. I have a few of those Trip CBD drinks in which I might drink later, I find they taste nice but I have to say I don’t get any chill/ relax/ mood change from them atall.

Have AF beers in too and some nosecco but I will pull out those weapons later in the month if the wine witch appears.

Someone asked up thread so I googled. 38% of those that attempt Dry January complete it 100% successfully. I think being on this thread will help us up those odds for us personally!

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/01/2025 18:56

Hello, evening all. I'm drinking a Moretti alcohol free beer - it's alright, I suppose, but not the half bottle of Picpoul I'd usually have.

Because I'm in denial I prefer to think of cravings as just "thoughts about wine" that way they don't seem so malevolent and a thing I'm battling with. DH and I are doing DJ together this year which will be interesting, for some reason we don't usually do it together - I do Lent more often, and he can't always face DJ. We're both as bad as each other - we never get raging drunk, we never have hangovers, but one of us buys a bottle of wine almost every night. We're going to save a fortune in the supermarkets!

To PP on the thread who are reading or listening to quit lit - is this because you are using dry January as a spring board to giving up for good?

Addictforanex · 04/01/2025 19:20

@LindorDoubleChoc on the quit lit question, I would describe myself as sober curious…. But really I would love to moderate so that’s my 2025 goal after Dry Jan. The quit lit helps me remind myself why I don’t want to be a heavy drinker anymore.

SplendidFox · 04/01/2025 19:21

Through my witching hours. Was tougher than yesterday as had a nice pasta dish we would normally be swigging the red wine with.

Love the Trip CBD drinks have had 2 in a wine glass and about to have a nice bath.

Also, finally had a good nights sleep last night which was amazing.

Good luck everyone!

I totally get this and feel exactly the same. Just worried that I won’t be able to moderate.

newme2025 · 04/01/2025 19:23

Hanging in there but feeling flat and miserable. Looking forward to bedtime.

Castlerigg · 04/01/2025 19:23

I've slept terribly every night since starting, which is unusual for me as I normally sleep well. However, I have had a cold, and been using nasal spray to unblock my nose. It works, but I'm wondering if there's also some anti-drowsiness ingredient in there. I'll try without tonight. I really want a good sleep before I go back to work on Monday.

Not tempted so far this evening. Long may that continue.

It’s because you’ve still got the taste and the habit of it in your system.

Once you change the habit and lose the taste it gets easier.

Or it did for me last year.

lespameo · 04/01/2025 19:54

@Waffle19 @newme2025 I feel the same way. Glad there's no wine in the house as feel I could easily give in for a glass of wine and I certainly didn't think I'd feel this on day 3!! It's the Saturday night issue I think as Saturday nights are for wine. I've got cider and gin in the house but not at all tempted for that! Just a cold glass of Pinot. What a terrible habit I've got into!

Waffle19 · 04/01/2025 20:02

I’m past it now, got a stir fry, an CBD and catching up on traitors. Planning an early night with a good book. For me I think it is the anticipation of it, once I’m past that moment of sitting down when the kids are in bed I’m ok. I don’t drink during the week and I regularly have a weekend without it or very little so I’m surprised I’m struggling already but I think it’s just habit and because it feels like a long time!

Majorityofthree23 · 04/01/2025 20:41

Hard tonight but i think the thought of it was worse. Looking forward to a glass of wine but once I didn't act on it was fine. (Even though DH and DS shared a bottle)
Absolutely shattered so taking myself to bed soon with a book feeling secretly pleased!
