It’s that time of year again!
If you need a detox, to lose weight, to be healthier, to undo some seasonal overindulgence, to sleep better, to look better, to have healthier skin, to save money, boost liver function, improve your memory, or to decrease your likelihood of dying earlier of various nasty illnesses (sorry for the sudden hard ball!) then you’ve come to the right place!

The MN DJ2025 Chat thread is for anyone who wants to reset their relationship with alcohol; whether you’re a weekend tippler or a problem heavier drinker.
This is a friendly, non-judgmental thread where we support and encourage each other, exchange ideas and information, share alcohol-free drinks recommendations etc.

Hopefully we’ll have some fun along the way. Please hop aboard the good ship DJ 2025, everyone welcome!

@SandrenaIsMyBloodType thank you that’s really helpful advice.

I know they would respect my decision not to drink but more in a sort of “humouring me” way, so actually the idea of presenting it as a shorter term thing would be much better for the dynamic I think.

SplendidFox · 02/01/2025 19:19

Ugh - sorry to say I had 2 glasses of wine at a funeral today.
Close family member - only 35 so was an emotional one. I managed to stay on the lime and sodas afterwards which people assumed were vodka. BUT I did manage to come home with my family rather than staying out which is always what I would have done. I also didn’t drink NYE so maybe that cancels this one out and the circumstances….🤦‍♀️ Determined so stay off it now

I’m so sorry for your loss.
You did well to only have a few and then stop and go home, so I’d still say that’s a win.

Last night was okay for me, though I slept badly. It all feels a bit miserable at the moment but I know I can do it.

Yeah, me too. I'm about to leave work and there's nothing I'd like more than a glass of Pinot when I get in 😟

Feeling tired and flat.

Thiszebraiscrossing · 02/01/2025 19:24

Day 2 done as am safely on sofa in pjs

HollyGolightly4 · 02/01/2025 19:38

@SplendidFox you've done amazingly well- please don't regret those drinks- you're still on it. Sorry for your loss 💐

Theremedy · 02/01/2025 19:39

Another day down, I’m worried about tomorrow though. I always have a drink on Friday nights, I’m going to want to drink wine.

Day 1 for me today

@Theremedy me too! I think that if I can get through tomorrow evening with out caving, that will be an achievement!
But thinking about it, the crunch point will actually be earlier in the day, when I will need to avoid buying the wine in the first place!

Me too. Friday night is usually a drinking night for me.
I plan to hit the gym at about 5pm, then come home and have dinner before heading to bed if the cravings get bad.
I've got some Pepsi Max and CBD drinks if necessary.

It may be a good idea for you to devise a plan so that you aren't just winging it tomorrow evening. We can do it!

Me too, I have bought the Kylie AF Prosecco to try so fingers crossed.

YouLookinSusBro · 02/01/2025 20:05

Today is tough, I'm hormonal and irritable and itching for a soothing glass of wine 😩

Tell me how you find the Kylie, Cat... I love the real thing, but suspect the AF version may be too sweet for me!

Thanks, it is the rose so it might well be too sweet (I like real Prosecco and also Chardonnay) but will share whether it hits the spot !

Condolences SplendidFox and amazing resolve to stop at a couple of glasses on such an emotional occasion.
Friday night is on the horizon and I find it best to make a plan that is different to what Friday usually looks like. So, dinner early maybe 'high tea' with a cuppa, or eat with the children if still young, or have a really simple supper that doesn't keep you in the kitchen. Have your alternative AF drink planned and in your best glass with a fancy ice and a slice, or sprig of mint, or snack on the side.
A mint (or two) after dinner, After Eight anyone? The taste definitely ruins a white wine. Or just clean your teeth.
If you're concerned about sugar or snacking increasing initially, tackle that once you have your alcohol consumption as you would wish.
Anyway, that is day two done for me. No weird dreams so far, so let's see what the night ahead holds.

FlyingPandas · 02/01/2025 21:00

So sorry to hear of your loss, @SplendidFox - today must have been incredibly hard and I think you did amazingly well to stop at 2 glasses Flowers

Day two here for me, not too bad so far. I have had a good clear out and tidy up, got the DC focused on various homework/revision/uni assignment stuff and have chucked away the flat dregs of a bottle of champagne left in the fridge after NYE. Meanwhile DH (who never does DJ but does cut down a lot whilst I do it) is manfully drinking up the leftover dregs of a couple of other bottles - red and dessert wine, luckily, neither of which I like, so I'm not tempted.

It was nice to wake up with a clear head this morning, but like others I'm going to find it harder on a Friday evening and over the weekend...

Chorizmo · 02/01/2025 22:31

Day 2 done. Good luck for tomorrow, everyone! 🌷

Fordian · 02/01/2025 23:04

HPLikecraft · 02/01/2025 17:05

Hey everyone, hope DJ is going well for you all.
Another evening beckons... stay busy and focussed on something. Idle minds and hands think about and reach for booze!
It's not easy, but each new dry day is another achievement.

At the end of today, we will 6.4% of the way through Dry January. Doesn't sound much, but it soon racks up.

Stay with us, stay strong, and try to post when you can. If you slip up start again.

We can do this 💪💪

Actually, that percentage thing is good! This time tomorrow it'll be 10%!

I worried about crumbling this evening, on day 2, fgs 🙄 but luckily I only got home at 7.45pm, had dinner (made by DH), watched The Traitors, and the after-show, drank chamomile tea, stayed out of the hot tub, where I ALWAYS drink wine; and am now in bed.

Phew.

I also weighed myself this morning 😬 Lots of wine calories, there!

GinintheBin · 02/01/2025 23:25

Bit late to the party, but Day 2 is done! I managed 120 days altogether in 2024 so hoping to beat that record this year.

Evening non-tipple of choice is Schweppes elderflower tonic with ice and a slice. Had one in the bath earlier and felt very self-indulgent.

Castlerigg · 02/01/2025 23:50

Day 2 done 🙂 I like the percentage too.

I haven't bought any AF replacements, but am interested to hear how the Kylie one is, as I would often go for that or Prosecco Rose.

My evening drink of choice is now Suki "Apple Loves Mint" Tea, I love it but it's pricy, so I've got a bag of that. If I save it for evenings, when I'd normally be on the Prosecco, I'll really look forward to and enjoy it. It's caffeine free too, which is a bonus.

HPLikecraft · 03/01/2025 00:00

Day two over! Phew!

Thewhisperingwindsofwinter · 03/01/2025 00:19

Day two completed for me. Alcohol didn't cross my mind today, think I am just so over it from Christmas and New year. Long may that last. Today I had coffee and hot chocolate to drink and tonight I had water with lime. Plans for this weekend is to catch up with housework, do some decluttering and at night do my nails, face mask things like that.
