It’s that time of year again!
If you need a detox, to lose weight, to be healthier, to undo some seasonal overindulgence, to sleep better, to look better, to have healthier skin, to save money, boost liver function, improve your memory, or to decrease your likelihood of dying earlier of various nasty illnesses (sorry for the sudden hard ball!) then you’ve come to the right place!

The MN DJ2025 Chat thread is for anyone who wants to reset their relationship with alcohol; whether you’re a weekend tippler or a problem heavier drinker.
This is a friendly, non-judgmental thread where we support and encourage each other, exchange ideas and information, share alcohol-free drinks recommendations etc.

Hopefully we’ll have some fun along the way. Please hop aboard the good ship DJ 2025, everyone welcome!

Little bumpety.

Think I started this thread a little early!

I will join you. Just had my over 40s check and liver function test indicates fatty liver, so happy to be doing this. Despite the six bottles of very decent whisky I received as gifts from various people this Christmas (that is worrying in itself).

I'm in, still recovering from a Chest infection which has rended me alcohol free for the last 2 weeks I thought just today I'm already on a roll, so going to carry on.

January dry and then a big permanent reduction overall.

At almost 50 it's dawned on me I've been drinking since my late teens with a few gaps for babies, so now is the time to try and reverse any damage.

I'm not a heavy drinker just social but it doesn't suit me anymore.

I’m in. So bored of drinking and feeling rough so have started mine today. Managed three months before and felt so good so I’m determined to at least do January. Having some blood tests done on Jan 10 as I have really high cholesterol so hoping it might reduce a bit by then!
good luck everyone

fixingmylife · 29/12/2024 20:04

I'd like to join this as well. I'm worried I might find it hard at first as my drinking has become very regular recently and the glasses have become larger... I need to address this and I hope abstinence in January will kick start a healthier relationship in the long term.

AlertCat · 29/12/2024 20:12

I’m in too. Starting on Wednesday. I always say no to dry January because (a) I have my birthday, and (b) January fucking sucks! But I earned very little in December, so poverty plus (in a very small voice) the fact that I do need to do this… maybe permanently, or perhaps with an exception for high days like Christmas, but not ordinary holidays like Saturdays.

I’m very conflicted about it!

XenoBitch · 29/12/2024 20:13

Checking in.
I am in bad shape, so want to sort things out.

loveforautumn · 29/12/2024 20:15

Can I join too! As I sit here with prosecco in hand 😂

YouLookinSusBro · 29/12/2024 20:15

I'm in. Managed Jan and Feb this year but have drunk like a fish the rest of the year. I will admit I am a problem drinker, it's the only thing that quiets the noise in my head, and I really struggle socially without it. It has been a stressful year work wise and I've relied on the booze far too much. This year I am aiming for Jan - Mar with moderation the rest of the year. I have bought a wall planner and am going to colour my alcohol free days green so I have a visual record of my progress.

GetyourheadoutoftheovenIris · 29/12/2024 20:17

I’m in. I’m doing the low carb boot camp so was going dry anyway.
I did dry January last year and enjoyed it. I also gave up smoking as the two went hand in hand but although I left the smoking behind I did drink again.

StripyRedSocks · 29/12/2024 20:22

I’m in - I always do dry January and this year am hoping it stretches on and on.

Bookaholic73 · 29/12/2024 20:23

I’m in.
I’ve tried several times in previous years to complete DJ, but have never achieved it.
I’m drinking way more than I normally do, so can’t wait for a detox.

flossy888 · 29/12/2024 20:27

Count me in! I failed at dry janurary last time so I'm determined to succeed this time! I'm definitely a problem drinker and really need to remember what ita like to be sober for a longer period of time!

GingerTeaCup · 29/12/2024 20:30

I’m in too. Have had long stints of no alcohol but it’s been a while since I had a month completely off the booze

Frontroomroomjungle · 29/12/2024 20:32

Marking my place!

Christmas has definitely been about over indulging but I've noticed some bad habits creeping in and its affecting my sleep and mood. I also have a birthday in January but I'm planning on some nice, AF treats to enjoy instead.

chippytea33 · 29/12/2024 20:37

I will join. My drinking habits have got pretty bad over 2024 and I think I've probably drank everyday for the past 2 weeks!

Definitely need to reset but not sure if I'll manage it as it will be such a huge change. Can't remember the last time I had even a full week off booze, must have been when I was pregnant.

So yeah I'm here for the support and hope I can do it for my health, weight and bank balance!

Queeezy · 29/12/2024 20:39

I'm in too - need a reset 😩

Clingfilm · 29/12/2024 20:41

Ooh me please, joining DH for the first time this year. Hoping to lose my lockdown booze spare tyre/weekend habit, it's been 5 bloody years! It's my equivalent of still having baby weight when the baby starts juniors.. Currently sitting with a glass of white, making the most, bad I know.

GaraMedouar · 29/12/2024 20:44

Hi - can I join? I want to do
Dry January - but potentially keep going and do a Dry 2025 - I actually like a drink but I can’t moderate - trying to lose weight too in 2025 so not having alcohol means I won’t get the munchies!!!

DiamondGoldandSilver · 29/12/2024 20:45

I’m in! I’m looking forward to more energy and hopefully some weight loss too

BulldogMumma · 29/12/2024 20:50

I'm doing dry jan, we have a thread running in alcohol support if anyone wants to join us

I could have so written this post!!! I Do a dry few weeks then it gradually creeps back up ! As the kids are getting older I do worry about the example I am setting.
I love your idea of having a visual representation- am stealing that idea 😃

mynamechangemyrules · 29/12/2024 23:14

I'm in please! @AlertCat I'm exactly the same as this.

I need to work out some ways to quiet the noise in my head without a 'calming' glass of something in the evening. Sometimes feel a bit like it's my only treat/ time to myself/ quiet time!
