Which binoculars for Costa Rica?

We’re going in a few weeks and are looking to get some bins in the sales for general wildlife spotting.

They likely won’t be used much after this trip, and 3/4 of the family are under 10, clumsy or both, so we don’t want to spend a fortune and don’t need anything too keen.

My very limited research so far tells me we should look at 8 to 12x magnification. I’ve seen Celestron recommended and have tabs open for the X 10x42 and Skymaster 12x60.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

10x magnification is easier than 12x - it’s tricky to keep still enough unless you’re sitting, or a true twitcher. (That’s the 1st number)

If you’re going to be in the jungle all the time, a larger diameter (the 2nd number) will bring in more light.

Mainly, I’d go for as lightweight and as portable as possible. Especially as you don’t plan on using them after your trip.

Something light. Have a look on eBay. Do not buy some heavy ex military binoculars. Anything less than 10x50 (Google that) will be fine. If heavy no one wants to use them. Expect to carry them so light is best www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235887141639?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=cm3vuhsqtti&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=IIt16xa7Qe-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
