Im menopausal and insomnia has been awful for the last 12 months but now the awful awful extremely vivid and disturbing dreams are waking me up. Then I’m awake for the rest of the night.

Anyone had this?

It feels like a really bad omen that something bad is about to happen and I can’t explain it.
I’m also completely non woo, don’t believe in anything like this normally but have an almost “anxiety “ feeling with these dreams.

Pfffft awake at 5.30 after a particular bad one.

This happened to me in perimenopause...would have horribly vivid dreams and jolt awake with my heart racing and feel awful for ages. Hrt has definitely helped this. It rarely happens now. Are you on hrt?

You mentioned insomnia for a year, the more sleep deprived you are the quicker and longer your brain goes into REM sleep when you do get some sleep which is the part where you dream. I also suffer from nightmares and intense vivid dreams that wake me, I understand how horrible it is.

Yes, on HRT.

I have this, I sleep with some low level lighting now so when I wake up I can see that I am safe and in bed. The darkness when jolting awake was adding to my anxiety.

Are you taking magnesium as that can make you have vivid dreams?

AceofPentacles · 26/12/2024 07:53

I had this on hrt and it was the oestrogen . Google it

ThewrathofBethDutton · 26/12/2024 17:53

Not on magnesium o.

The oestrogen thing is very interesting though. I’ve been on HRT for months and months and the dreams have only started this last 2 weeks.
