Street Party Edinburgh on NYE - anyone been recently?

Is it worth forgoing our tickets & just going somewhere private?

We have the option of hanging out in either of 3 hotels or someone's house. We are all pretty easy & hardened travellers. Would be good to see the fireworks.

It's good for the experience if you have never been but I didn't enjoy myself. It was too busy, I was unwell and wanted a hot cup of tea and had to queue for ages just to get it. Maybe if I was in better spirit I'd enjoy it. X

I've done it, would never do it again. It's not much fun.

I haven't been, but when I lived and worked in Edinburgh 20 years ago it was renowned for being an overcrowded tourist trap. Also a rubbish place for watching the fireworks - we used to go up on Salisbury Crags to see the fireworks.

Thanks for this. Can you explain why? Was it particularly dreadful?
