Signed up to beginner yoga and I'm not sure what to wear... especially on my feet.
I'm not keen on bare feet.
O and I'm fat as well so not sure about the rest of me

You can buy yoga socks from Décathlon; they are like thin running socks (I think any socks that are clean would be fine).

I just wear sports leggings and a T shirt , high waisted leggings so that the don’t roll down. If you wear sock they will need to be non-slip ones you can get special yoga/pilates socks with grippy bits on the bottom

Gym leggings and a vest or t-shirt which you can tuck into your waistband for the upside down poses.

Bare feet are normal for yoga as they grip the floor better than socks (which are slippy). Nobody will take any notice of your feet.

It’s useful to take a pair of socks though as it can get chilly during the monger final savasna (laying down and drifting off for a few minutes).

Wear a tight ish top or a vest underneath so that when you're in an upside down pose like downward dog your t-short doesn't go flying over your head - learned from bitter experience!

Enjoy, I find it really calming! 🧘‍♀️

You'll want tight pants as the down ward dog type poses will mean loose pants will roll down towards your knee. Ideally a tight top for the same reason but if not you can tuck it I . Ideally bare feet for yoga as you tend to skid wearing socks whilst in down ward dog type poses but good on you for starting it as great exercise and I'm sure you'll
Love it 💪🏻

You will need bare feet or specific yoga socks, normal socks will be slippy which can be quite dangerous. But in a beginner class I doubt anyone will have yoga socks so everyone else will have their toes out too, so try not to worry about it! Just wear something comfortable and light that doesn't restrict your movement and you'll be fine :)

I'd go barefoot, but if you really don't want to do that you need yoga/pilates socks with grip. If you wear shorts, they need to be fitted cycle shorts so no one can see up the leg during seated poses. Otherwise you can wear leggings, or yoga pants, but you want something tight around the ankle rather than loose joggers, and similarly you will want either a top tight enough to stay in place over a sports bra or one you can tuck in. Less loose fabric is better, as you will spend some time bent over and you don't want excess fabric falling over your head.

Thanks everyone. I will definitely invest in yoga socks before the first session

Don't wear a baggy t-shirt as it'll flop over your head when you do downwards dog. I forget this every so often.

Have you got a mat yet as you need to make sure you don’t slip on that as well

EmpressaurusKitty · 22/12/2024 08:45

I normally just wear my running / gym kit.

needhelpwiththisplease · 22/12/2024 08:48

@TheOliveFinch I've not got any equipment.
I've signed up for a beginner yoga class and all stuff is provided.
I'm hoping that I can actually do it and then will buy one.

That’s good then I’ve always had to take my own mat , hope you enjoy it

Tooes · 22/12/2024 09:00

Yoga tights and sports bra with a loose t shirt. No socks is best but take a disinfectant spray with you and your own mat

GameOfJones · 22/12/2024 09:07

I'm fat and I love yoga!

Like others have said, bare feet is better but if not, make sure your socks have grip on the bottom. Are they definitely providing the mats? If at all unsure, take a large towel.... that's what I used when I first started yoga.

You want leggings or joggers that are tight around the ankle and a vest or t shirt you can tuck in so nothing slips down when you're in the poses. Don't wear tops that are too baggy or have a low cut neck. I learned that from bitter experience bending over and realising people could see straight down my top.
