Anyone else mind-numbingly bored?

Saturday nights in your 40s are so often shit aren't they?

Last night DH went for a couple of pints then came home and watched the darts.

I came out to my studio to practice my drums.

Today he went for a couple of pints and came home to watch the boxing.

I came out to my studio to practice my drums.

The kids are teens and happy in their own rooms. I don't really have friends who like going out for a few drinks, or they don't live close.

I'll have no nights out over Christmas to look forward to.

Anyone else completely fucking bored of the routine?

It sounds like you want to go out. So find some local meetups?

I don't drink and going out on Saturday night is my idea of nightmare. Always has been.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/12/2024 22:25

Would it be worth inviting the friends who don't want to go out-out over just for a meal, with a bottle or so of wine? I know what you mean about just wanting to throw everything off and go out into the world for fun, but you can still have a good evening at home, and it might give them a taste for more?

Or join a band and let your husband stay home and mind the kids, if he's willing. Put all that practice to good use.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 21/12/2024 22:30

Joining a band is all well and good but few bands are looking for someone not very experienced in their 40s 😆

I always like the idea of going out but then the expense and logistics of getting there and back put me right off.

Clingfilm · 21/12/2024 23:11

I love the Idea of joining a 40+ female band. All those pub bands are made up of older blokes who play for fun and I've always felt resentful for all the women who should be doing the same!

What about getting a job pulling pints in a music venue? You'll be out out, and getting paid. But sober.

ShadowsOfTheDays · 21/12/2024 23:12

Oh god no @Clingfilm did enough of that in my uni days!

I am going to start doing some gig photography early next year (photography being my other hobby) so that's a good excuse to go to more things - but again, alone...

Would your dh go out with you if you arranged things like gigs, theatre, cinema, meals? Do you know couples you could invite over for dinner or go for meals with?

blueshoes · 21/12/2024 23:19

I am never bored because I love reading.

As it is, I am far too busy to even read.

Where do you live? You might be round the corner from one of us! I'd go out with you.
Mumsnet needs a 'friend date' section.

Mumsnet totally does need that!

SwordToFlamethrower · 22/12/2024 00:47

I'm AuDHD and I get REALLY bored by routines. I'm feeling extremely bored at the moment.

I need some excitement and alas, we don't do Christmas and everything is Christmas related so there is not much for us to do.

I get very bored by TV. I need to resurrect an old hobby. But what I'd really like to do, is go out clubbing.

No can do though because I've got a 2 year old and no babysitter.

I sympathise op!

VegTrug · 22/12/2024 02:29

I do concur OP. I’m a widowed parent with no friends so I’m beyond bored.
Does your DH go to the pub every night?

Princessfluffy · 22/12/2024 12:48

Maybe you need hobbies where you go out to a class every week and involve leaving the house and spending time with other people. I find that a great way to make new friends.
