How do I clean this part of my sink?

Photo hopefully included.

It’s driving me mad. I’ve tried so many things and it won’t come off. It seems to have only appeared recently. I’m not sure if the drain has moved slightly and this is what’s underneath.

Any help to get rid of this ring would be appreciated. I’m currently trying Bar Keeper’s Friend spray but still having no luck.

TIA

Looks like mould on clear silicone sealant. In which case you might be able to use a mould and mildew spray but with the black plug that might need protecting before you use something that contains bleach.

Baxterbaxter · 21/12/2024 11:55

I use bleach - I pour it round the plug hole and leave it for a couple of hours. It always works a treat.

I use a toothpick or the end of a floss pick or close the plug and use a scrubbing brush
Then mould remover

You could try spraying flash bleach on paper towel, make a ring shape size of the silicone & place there for a few hrs (don’t go near the chrome) - I’ve done this for the silicone that runs up mums door, it’s worked a treat 😊
my husband has fitted new sinks & has used plumbers mate underneath to seal the plug hole, I hate when plumbers use this method of putting silicone around the the plug hole 😩

Bleach.

Regular scrub with a toothbrush.

I have a water flosser. As well as flossing my teeth it also cleans this bit of the sink. A bit like a very mini pressure washer.

In my experience the only things that work on mould in silicon are the HG products. Soak some loo roll in it and place on top of stains and leave for as long as you can.

Olika · 21/12/2024 13:18

I would pour bleach and leave for several hours.

Mossstitch · 21/12/2024 13:50

I press the plug down then small amount of bleach left to soak but not enough to cover the plug ( voice of experience I damaged the top surface by leaving bleach on that🤦‍♀️) then it just rubs off with a rough cloth or pan scrub sponge if particularly difficult to shift.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/12/2024 14:00

I would first remove the plug (they unscrew) as it will probably be rather black under there too. I would then use a washing up brush (photo) to scrub round. I also use Viakal occasionally and then scrub away again.
