What’s the worst part about Christmas?

So we’ve heard all the wholesome things like the look on your kids face, the time off work, After Eights by the kilo…but what are the bad parts about Christmas?

For me, it’s Shloer. Ban it immediately.

Also, people who sellotape the paper to the gift itself so that when you unwrap, it pulls a part of the packaging away too.

And people using the term “Chrimbo”.

What is your lighthearted worst bit of the holiday season?

The farts. I have a genuine horror of bad smells (I am ND and this is a major sensory problem for me). Christmas is wonderful and I love it, but I do struggle being confined in a crowded, warm room with all the windows closed and people guffing away after too much meat and cheese and sprouts. People laugh, but it causes me genuine distress!

It's the pressure to be happy all the time and even worse if someone if going through something difficult, like a loss. I think it magnifies everything x1000 and is impossible to opt out of.

This made me laugh but I appreciate it’s a genuine issue for you. The meat, dairy and veg combination is lethal.

As a trick, a bit of Vaseline under your nose will render you unable to smell most things. Maybe you’ll get it in your stocking lol.

YY the pressure to be happy... sometimes people have had a hard year and just need a rest!

And shop insanity - it's been going on since the start of November... I feel so sorry for the staff.

Doggymummar · 17/12/2024 21:45

Going back in Jan 6th, telling people uyo are busy so they will accept you not socialising

foghead · 17/12/2024 21:46

Getting confused on bin day.

Rawnotblended · 17/12/2024 21:46

The dickish expectations of my entitled kids. We had End of Days Armageddon Apocalypse last year because youngest had posted his letter to Father Christmas IN THE POSTBOX without my seeing it, and he didn’t get what he wanted. And that’s because he wanted a fucking Tesla. The wine was open at breakfast.

Existential crisis right there... 😱

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/12/2024 21:47

Every year I go off piste with food and drink, thinking 'it's Christmas I can gain weight'. And every year I forget the IBS and heartburn and farts as PP said and remember too late that healthy food might be shite but I feel better.

Tins containing a disproportionate amount of the abomination that is the Bounty Celebrations.

Absolutely, the shops I find so depressing.

Drinking all the Christmas booze by 8pm on 14th December...

fanaticalfairy · 17/12/2024 21:49

Yes to the bin day changing!
The urge to declutter the entire house in the 27th

GameOfJones · 17/12/2024 21:49

Quality Street. They are absolutely disgusting and disappointing nowadays!

From Boxing Day onwards my hands are twitching...

Compash · 17/12/2024 21:50

The Fear because all the GPs and dentists and other necessaries of life like garages and trades are closed.

Cynic17 · 17/12/2024 21:51

People.
Fuss.
The fact that it seems to go on forever.
Turkey.
Xmas jumpers.
Lights on the outside of houses.
More fuss.

Need I go on?

Kibble29 · 17/12/2024 21:51

In the same vein as bin collection days, medication ordering is a pain. Is the GP open for me to order it? Yes but they need 48 hours to process the prescription. Will the chemist be open 48 hours later for my collection? Will I remember to go? What day is that? What day is today? 😵

Not being able to spend it as I’d wish (home alone or with my best mate on a beach somewhere hotter than the sun).

StarDolphins · 17/12/2024 21:53

Not knowing what day it is
Having to watch the dog ALL the time incase he’s found a pack of choc coins
Feeling like I have loads of days then after 5 days, work is looming
People literally pushing people over to get pigs in blankets
No parking spaces anywhere
Depressing Christmas music that just reminds me of how little family I have left
Sequin polyester dresses everywhere

Apart from that, I love it all🤣
