How prepared for Christmas are you?

Glitterbomb123 · 17/12/2024 20:20

I think I have everything bought apart from one thing. Have only wrapped a handful though and have a tonne to wrap for the kids.

We aren't hosting Christmas day, only boxing day so need to get the food in for that.

Do you have everything bought? Everything wrapped? Just wondering how prepared people are really. Especially those with kids or lots of people to buy for.

I'm mostly done Christmas shopping, I'll do the food shop over the weekend
BUT....
it's my 4&5 year old boys birthdays on Xmas day and the 23rd and I've bought NOTHING 😳
My oldest wants to choose his own birthday presents this year though so he's gonna drag me round smyths and rinse me isn't he 😂

JohnMcClanesVest · 17/12/2024 20:26

Everything is wrapped, cards posted and I’ve bought most of the non perishable food and drink. Bought a real tree on Sunday which is still wrapped in the garden. We have no decorations up at all.

YouveGotAFastCar · 17/12/2024 20:28

We bought the tree today, it’s outside “settling”.

I’ve got 90% of DS’ presents but not much for DH. I need to fix that! We need to do the food shop as I was manic with work and forgot to reserve one this year… we’ve got DS birthday first 🫣 I’ve got his cake to sort, and then all the wrapping for both…

Presents bought, got a card for DH today, food bits like nibbles/panattone/crisps bought. Cold meats, pigs in blankets and stuffing in the freezer. Cheese in the fridge. Turkey ordered, organic veg box ordrred too.

flubuggy · 17/12/2024 20:33

Not very. Tree went up yesterday.

I've only bought presents this week (no small kids here) I text my usual butcher yesterday to order Turkey crown (we've been away hence the delay) and he said tough shit order book closed 😂

We now have Turkey crown from farm shop in the freezer as their order book for next week was also closed.

Honestly I'll be relieved when it's done!

MaltipooMama · 17/12/2024 20:34

Excitedly totally prepared for Christmas and now just enjoying the lead up 😃 it's my favourite time of year, we have a one year old and another on the way, all presents are bought, wrapped and under the tree, stockings are filled, all decorations are up and several Christmas shopping orders booked ready to be collected/delivered Christmas Eve! Baked a massive batch of NYC Christmas cookies as well which we'll be starting on soon. Honestly I just love it, I normally start around August time 🙈

SoySaucy · 17/12/2024 20:37

All presents bought, all apart from about 5 are wrapped, stocking fillers sorted. House all decorated, I’ve done a deep clean upstairs and going to tackle downstairs tomorrow.
just need to do the last food shop (already got some snacks, store cupboard bits and non-perishables, plus the main meat in the freezer)

GameOfJones · 17/12/2024 20:43

Presents are all bought.

None of them are wrapped. But I tend to use gift bags and tissue paper mostly so that's not too onerous. But it needs doing!

Christmas cards have been sent.

Decorations are all up.

Food shopping is 80% done (we are also hosting on Boxing Day.) I just need to brave the supermarket and go and get the fresh stuff, probably on Monday. But the meat is in the freezer so other than the vegetables and some bread and milk we are pretty much there.

I am looking forward to finishing work this week and enjoying the festivities.

MadmansLibrary · 17/12/2024 20:45

Supremely organised! Tree's been up since the 1st of the month. All of DD's gifts purchased and most of the extended family. I've got 90% of the food shopping done, barring a top-up of fresh veg next Monday. I plan on shutting the front door on the 23rd and not leaving the house again until the 26th unless I can absolutely help it.

MadmansLibrary · 17/12/2024 20:45

Oh, and the wrapping's all done! 💅

Positivenancy · 17/12/2024 20:49

I need to wrap a few last things.

Turkey is ordered so I just need to collect it in 23rd. I’m hosting but my guests have been allocated parts of dinner. One is bringing them ham and drinks and the other is bringing veggies and dessert. I’m going the turkey and the potatoes.

I don’t do cards.

so that’s it I think…pretty much ready ☺️

coxesorangepippin · 17/12/2024 20:52

We're not hosting, thank god

Gifts are pretty much bought

Great as we are going to the holiday cottage this year

popandchoc · 17/12/2024 21:28

All presents bought, got a few left to wrap. Not hosting christmas day but will need to do some shopping for christmas eve and after at some point.

Doggymummar · 17/12/2024 21:30

It's very low key. We don't do presents or entertain. Everyone gets money. Food shop is coming Sunday 6.30am booze was delivered already snacks were delivered. Work is done three weeks of doing bugger all and seeing noone after tomorrow. Bliss

Pinkmoonshine · 17/12/2024 21:32

Wish I’d started earlier! There’s a lot to do, isn’t there? Yet to finish the presents, need to wrap, stocking presents to wrap, all the last minute food to buy, some cooking to do ahead! Taking my kids out and about to have fun too and enjoy freedom from school.

next year I am starting much much earlier

EndorsingPRActice · 17/12/2024 21:40

Getting there step by step, got the tree and decorated at the weekend, wrote my cards and posted them yesterday, have planned food and am starting to stock up, am doing loads of washing, bedclothes and towels for guests, as well as all the usual stuff and have had a major tidy up. Will start wrapping tomorrow, the presents are all purchased and all but one delivered. I’m getting worried about that one as it should have been delivered weeks ago, but it’s not that valuable so there is no need to panic. A big drinks shop is being delivered Saturday. Need to be completely ready by Monday, as I collect my mum then, and the holiday officially starts!

caringcarer · 17/12/2024 21:44

Real tree up and decorated. Outside lights up. Star lit up on the front door. Most of my gifts are bought now. DGC, DD and SiL already had their gifts as I do early Xmas with them each year so I get to see all my 3 DC, SiL, partners and DGC all together on December 7th. Virtually no wrapping done but I'm planning on doing that over the weekend. I've bought shopping that keeps and a large gammon, large leg of pork and 2 joints of beef plus 2 whole salmon and 8 ribeye steaks in freezer. I've also bought 2 frozen desserts and ice cream. I'll get the turkey crown on Sunday or Monday.

I feel your pain. My little one has a birthday on Sunday so I have birthday wrapping paper to use and then Christmas wrapping paper. We’re doing a birthday breakfast on Sunday morning, but as it stands we’re in the grey area where there’s not a scrap of food in the fridge, no wrapping done and house needs cleaning. Have booked a day off work to crack on this week so I don’t have a breakdown. Oh and also need to do a clear out of all existing toys seeing as he’ll be getting double presents this week. Fantastic.

caringcarer · 17/12/2024 21:45

I'm going away Xmas Day and Boxing day but hosting 27th-30th.

Mashroom · 17/12/2024 21:47

Tree is up and presents bought (mainly) and wrapped

a voucher or two to buy yet

food shopping I’ll do early on morning (nip about about 7.30 won’t be busy where we live ) but I’ll have most things got and put away eg cranberry, Schloer for the kids etc) but I’ll get a fresh turkey and veg and desserts fresh

really that’s it .. house is fairly clean so won’t have a tonne to do

shellyleppard · 17/12/2024 21:47

Decorations are up, turkey in the freezer. However I have two sacks full of presents to wrap and..... I haven't sent any Christmas cards. So sort of organised 🤣

Littlemiracles232504 · 17/12/2024 21:50

@MammaTo it's so bloody hard isn't it 😂😂
Ohh and don't even dare wrap birthday presents in Christmas wrapping paper and all that jazz 🫣
I'm dreading it when they get to teenage years and want all the new expensive stuff and then x2
Birthday breakfast sounds lush though, my oldest wants to go watch polar express on his birthday at the cinema so that's one box ticked at least

FiftynFooked · 17/12/2024 21:52

Mine is a bit like a brand new 1000 piece jigsaw. All the pieces are there and it'll be great when it's all put together but the thought of it is a bit daunting!

BondStreet · 17/12/2024 21:54

Everything is all wrapped, I may browse the shops for one final time on Friday.

I’ve pre-ordered my food shop for Monday and will pop to M&S Monday morning to get the nice bits.

cannot wait!

ffsgloria · 17/12/2024 21:54

No hosting so minimal stress re food etc.

Have wrapped about 50% of the presents.

Feeling pretty prepared but have also made a conscious effort to lower perfectionist standards of past years!
