Freaked out by weird phone call

I had a missed call and a text message that just said ‘Hi LoveTheYellowBallOfJoy, you called.’

I definitely didn’t call so ignored it, but then they called me again so I picked up.

It was a well spoken man who said he’d had a missed call from me. He was the same profession as me, and knew my first name. He then started askingmy surname, where I was based, whether I’d been to any networking events that he could know me from etc.

In the end I said I needed to go but I’m a little freaked out - has anyone else experienced similar & did it turn out to be a scam? I gave him my surname, profession and county (stuff that can be found online) but now I’m worrying as he seemed very keen to keep me on the line.

I googled his number and a website comes up for someone with the same name and profession but I guess they could be spoofing his number.

Has anyone experienced similar?

Seems a bit odd
I once had a call on the landline with my landline number on the display (!?) So in effect my phone was calling itself..very weird. Could definitely be a scam seeing how he was eager to keep you talking and probably try and get more info from you. Then again he could be all above board and knew you from somewhere

Don’t give any information to someone calling you. Why would you? Stop letting your people pleasing put you at risk

Could he have found you via crawling through LinkedIn?
