Gifting money for travel in Asia

My secretary is leaving me (boohoo) to travel abroad. I'd like to gift her about £100 to spend on her travel. What is the best way to do this? Previously I would have given cash in dollars but I think maybe this is very outdated. I don't really want to ask for her bank details to transfer money to her. She is going to Vietnam, Thailand etc. Thanks!

You could always buy her an Air Asia gift card - it’s the local equivalent of Ryanair and she can use it to cover some travel costs.

Or find a chain of posh hotels that have outlets across the region and buy a voucher that she can redeem for a fancy massage / night away from the backpackers / epic meal and cocktails

That’s really nice thing to do. I think the best thing is to ask her. She may volunteer the bank details or something else.

I think in this instance, cash is perfectly fine. In a card and hand it to her. I wouldn’t buy a gift card as it’s an extra thing for her to bring with her travelling. She may already have bookings finalised. She can convert to local currency as needed.

I'd give her cash, probably in American dollars rather than sterling.

Give her cash in Sterling that she can put on her credit card. They don’t necessarily accept dollars in Vietnam and Thailand.

US dollars would be okay, I'm not sure about Thailand but dollars are widely accepted in Vietnam. Even better though would be to get local currency and give her that in a card.

Thanks - sounds like cash in dollars will be okay - I will sort this out!
