Should I email about this job?

Had an interview last Monday.. At the end, before I asked, one of the panel said
We won't keep anyone hanging around.. we will let everyone know by Friday
Not heard anything.. I assume I haven't got the job, but would like to move on. Was thinking of writing to ask if they could let me know
Am I being too impatient?

No they always seem to lie about this. I have never ever had an interview where they actually called me within their stated timescale. Usually it's up to a week later. I don't know why they always say "we won't keep people hanging around" because they almost always do IME and all they do is make people think they didn't get the job. But absolutely don't chase it up at this point!

Sounds to me like they like you but you’re not first choice maybe? They’re possibly waiting for someone to accept or decline before they come back to you. Don’t give up hope yet!

It might be the case that someone from the interviewing panel is off sick and is needed to make a decision. A friend of mine was once waiting to hear after an interview and the person interviewing ended up in hospital due to a terrible accident. Eventually my friend got the job but had to wait a few weeks to hear.
