NHS dentist wont treat slightly receding gums

I was advised my gums had receded slightly due to the way I was brushing them and my nerves are exposed, but it apparently isn't severe enough for treatment. I'm not sure what kind of treatment they could do, but it's causing me pain. They said they will only treat it if it becomes severe or I get an infection, but I'd prefer to prevent it getting to that stage

You will probably need to see the hygienist possibly private. NHS aren't great at preventative care.
