Does something like the repair shop exist in real life?

I have a slightly embarrassing problem, for a woman in her 30s anyway.

I sleep with a teddy bear every night; always have. He was given to me when I was born. I’m very attached to him. I had a difficult childhood involving foster care and stuff, and he is the only constant that’s ’seen it all’.

He’s now 33, he’s falling to bits - he’s been sewn up many times in childhood by my mum and my grandmother but sadly that’s no longer possible. I can’t sew, and I don’t really know anyone who can to ask them.

Do repair shop type things exist? I’d be scared to send him somewhere, and I’m loathe to ask on Facebook etc. It’s literally just to find someone who can stitch his legs back on and add a bit of stuffing! I’ve even thought about asking Build a Bear but doubt they will do it.

Yep. My mum, in her late 60s at the time, sent her childhood bear away to be restored.

Look at people who handmake bears - on etsy perhaps - and see if they would help or know someone who does.

Yes there are bear hospitals. Our local community run a repair cafe where you can take household items to be repaired and they’d do a bear I’m sure! But obviously doesn’t help unless you live where I do!

We have a once a month "repair café" in a community centre in our town.

Which reminds me. I have a handbag that needs the clasp re-attaching.

There are repair cafes in our community too, there is likely to be one in your area.
