What size of room and is it pretty straight or loads of cutting and time consuming ?

Have you an idea how much its is professionally ?

My flat was fitted. Stairs, living room, bedroom and it was £200. (It should have been £150).

We paid 60 per room recently

Our fitter came to re-fit one edge (fitted wardrobes) and replace 2 bits of vinyl strips. We gave him £50, he asked for £10.
We paid a joiner £250 for half a day, he asked for £180.
Good Tradies are hard to get so we always pay more than they ask and they always come back when needed.

I was surprised to be only asked for £20 not so long ago (we buy our carpets from a local small independent who book the fitter and you pay them separately).

It was a smallish double bedroom without furniture and it turned out he was doing the job while his daughter was at an activity in our village.

I paid £60 for one room a few months ago.

helpmyback · 15/12/2024 09:59

Thanks all:)

I thought 50 but I now think 30 is reasonable.

It's a large room but empty and DH will help carry it upstairs.

About 7 years ago we paid £40 to have vinyl fitted to en-suite.

Maybe 30 plus a box of beers (there's lots on offer in supermarkets in the run up to Christmas)

@Sprogonthetyne

That is a great idea

£50 sounds about right. He's doing this after a tiring day's work and his mum has volunteered him. Have you even talked with him?

I was thinking £30/40 all depending on the size and shape.

Yes of course we have he's DH Godson

He came and measured for us!

He will be happy with £30 and beer.

I like the beer idea. It's like a thanks as
Well as Monetary

I case anyone is interested it will take him 3-4 hours to fit! He just dropped it off.

So I will give him £60 plus beer.

I was thinking it would be an hours job!

The relationship hadn't been included in the original post but you obviously care for and appreciate each other. Him for offering to do it for free and you for valuing how much time it will take him.

That's a great update!

@Swissrollover thank you I appreciate that. That made me feel lovely.
