Need suggestions for volunteering before Xmas. (SW London)

DH started a new job last week and has been told his department will miss one of their KPI's if he doesn't do 12 hours volunteering before the end of the year. We will be busy over Xmas, so, realistically, it needs to be this week, ideally during office hours. There are obviously a zillion opportunities for regular volunteering out there, but at such short notice he either needs an activity or event that he can just turn up for and pitch in, or a discrete piece of voluntary work he can do at home (he's a whizz with spreadsheets).

Any specific suggestions? He has already found a couple of options by googling, but is still open to ideas.

We're in Richmond Borough.

Litter picking
Charity shops
Charity collections
Food banks (often have extra at Christmas)
Local amateur theatre backstage
Ask Rotary if they need extra bodies
Churches may need people to make up Christingles etc
Do gardening/odd jobs/out decorations up for elderly/vulnerable people (if he has a dbs)
Your kids' school

Not the point I know but this is all on him because the rest of them haven't pulled their weight for the last 12 months?

Local soup kitchen, call Crisis for suggestions. Local charities might have some ideas?

If his company are so desperate for him to volunteer, surely they can sort something out? Otherwise, sorry, no can do. Tell him not to be a mug.

Yes, he's looking at all of those, but needs to narrow down on a specific event or activity. The charity shops around here only want regular volunteers. He doesn't have a recent DBS. Our school would need a DBS arranged by them for anything unsupervised, so there isn't time to arrange that.

School or church events are probably a good shout especially if he can make cakes or something beforehand as well.

But I have to say this doesn't sound like a particularly sensible request from his department, especially at such short notice this time of year. I'd be tempted to just make something up tbh.

The easiest non registered volunteering is self - led litter picking. You can often borrow the sticks and bags from the council or local centres . Or buy them for a couple quid. Not glamorous but makes a difference! We tend to go out in a group.

No, its because the KPI says all staff need to do X hours. It isn't pro-rated for new staff, and they can't count anything he did before he joined.

Another thought - is he into running? If there's a good gym in your area he could join them and do a few sessions perhaps, it's usually all quite casual and you don't need a drb or anything.

I live in Richmond. Park run and junior park run always need volunteers. Junior is on moormead at 0900 tomorrow. Contact then by Facebook. You could do bushy park run next Saturday or even old deer park run next Sat too
