… 2 hours (and counting) of lying awake in bed thinking ‘I’m a twat, I’m a twat’.

Alcohol sucks and I really shouldn’t drink it.

Oh I get this- I over analyse everything I said and did. Terrible isn't it!
Theres never anything wrong either!

MaggieBsBoat · 13/12/2024 04:36

WHat did you do?!

WHat did you do?!

Nothing! Except said this or that innocuous comment that has me trapped in one long insomniac cringe.

CountFucula · 13/12/2024 05:02

This is why I don’t drink often. Up at this hour after just ONE large glass of red with dinner.
Good that you recognise the awful overanalysing for what it is though OP. Solidarity.
I also like to throw in worrying about things I said or did in the early 2000’s as well.

Zanatdy · 13/12/2024 05:06

The alcohol paranoia, hate it, and it’s why I rarely drink these days, and if I do, try and stick with one or two.

tolerable · 13/12/2024 05:06

did you dance tho?

marmiteandminticecream · 13/12/2024 05:46

can you remember anyone else saying anything embarrassing i bet not
and they won't be thinking of what you said either
it's beer fear it will pass

Hoglet70 · 13/12/2024 05:52

It's the worst! I try to only drink more than one or two at home these days but even after one or two when I'm out I always feel like my mouth runs away with me.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 13/12/2024 06:01

Ah The Fear.

It's very frustrating. I have my work night out tonight and deciding whether I should drink or not.

Thepossibility · 13/12/2024 06:14

If I have a few drinks in company I get the same. I have found listening to podcasts/YouTube videos helpful while in bed. Put something boring but soothing to listen to if you wake in the middle of the night. It helps take the negative mind off the relentless awful thoughts. I even bought cheap fabric headphones so I can sleep with while listening without bothering DH.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 13/12/2024 06:33

I became allergic to alcohol about a decade ago. I was a very merry social drinker up to that point. I had even worked in the wine trade when I was younger and knew a lot about wines. But almost overnight I had to stop drinking or I guess end up in a coma!
Turned out for the best no more beer fear no more hangovers. I stopped doing things that were boring unless I was drunk that also turned out for the best.

Determineddoris · 13/12/2024 06:33

Oooo I feel for you as that's how I used to feel before I gave up booze which is one of the many reasons I gave up! Don't worry as at the time it feels like shit but don't beat yourself up and move on the rest of today! Take care of yourself!

WinterFoxes · 13/12/2024 06:35

tolerable · 13/12/2024 05:06

Ah, don't encourage the poor mite!

verycloakanddaggers · 13/12/2024 06:36

It sounds like not drinking would be more enjoyable overall for you.

Distraction is the only answer whilst it's happening, watch TV, read or listen to the radio.

Hekii · 13/12/2024 06:43

Well, the Fear has passed, but now I have to go into work on approx 4 hours sleep 😩

No dancing involved unfortunately. If dancing had started I would have stopped drinking!

AmyW9 · 13/12/2024 06:49

Totally relate. I find asking myself 'will what I said matter in five minutes? Five days? Five years?' helpful.

If it's not ticking all three boxes, it generally calms me down!

Jagoda · 13/12/2024 06:55

Hangxiety

Horrible. Yet another good reason to not drink alcohol.

At least it’s Friday OP. You can do it!!!

Wonderi · 13/12/2024 06:56

So you let your hair down and got a bit carried away, so what.

It doesn’t sound as though you did anything majorly wrong (unless you tried snogging your boss and slapped a co-worker), honestly no one would bat an eyelid and they were probably drunk themselves.

Don’t be so hard on yourself.

enzomari · 13/12/2024 06:58

OP, I’ve just woken up after a great and rare night out with lovely friends and all I can think of if is how awful I was. Just spoken to DH who assures me I wasn’t, nothing happened and yet…

Hangxiety is the worse 🙈

WhatDaHell · 13/12/2024 06:59

Don't worry, OP.

We've all been there!

AmethystRuby · 13/12/2024 07:00

been there. its forgotton not long afterwards. dont worry about it - it was probably not as bad as you think it was!

enzomari · 13/12/2024 07:00

Also, and I will remind myself of this in a couple of hours, you would have been in a room full of other drunk people who will probably remember very little of the night anyway 😊

BySparklyMoose · 13/12/2024 07:01

Like others have commented, think about all of the shameful stories you have read or heard about others. You barely remember who or when and if you do you shrug or laugh. People move on and mostly forget about others and all of them are thinking about themselves and their own actions/lives. Seriously. Don’t give it another moments thought. Will it matter in 5 mins, 5 hours, okay, 5 weeks? Probably not. You are dead a long time. Have a nice weekend.

Fruby · 13/12/2024 07:12

Such a shame alcohol does this to us!

These days I only get merry on very special occasions, only a handful of times a year. And I grit my teeth through the paranoia, hangsiety, beer fear, for the following 48 hrs. I find it’s much less bad if I drink spirits and mixers over wine / beer.

Dont worry OP, you’ve done nothing to justify this feeling and you’ll feel and much better soon. Get loads of fluids & a big sleep in tonight
