Help me plan NYE in Edinburgh for my visitors from the US, please!

Where wound you stay? What would you do? Recommendations welcome.

It's well over 6km from the west end of Princes Street to the Leonardo "Murrayfield", that's way more than an hours walk.

It's 4 miles. That takes me an hour. I lived in Clermiston and used to walk home from town sometimes.

Thank you! I had my eye on this hotel. That's helpful to know.

I'd probably go with the Edinburgh Park Premier Inn unless you want the pool etc.

We are all late 40s/early 50s.

Thanks for suggestions. Will book the Edinburgh Park Premier later. So excited!

What about the Sheraton just off princes st?

decisionsdecisionsdecision · 13/12/2024 06:47

What about booking the post bells party at the ghillie dhu? There's still tickets for the main bar available and will give you somewhere to go after the bells for a bit of atmosphere. I'm not sure if there's dancing in the main bar though

What about the Sheraton just off princes st?

It’s over £600 a night!
NYE prices are as stupid as in August during the festivals.

same @ThisJollyLimeBird but to be fair, I'd have hated it in my 20's too!!

Oh yes! That's the whole point. They are over from the US and want to do either London or Edinburgh on NYE. We are all fit and healthy, travel a lot together, and have chosen just this one night to do something outside for those hours.

I love the sound of the after-bells party but I think in reality we will be ready for bed soon after midnight.

I got street party tickets but now I'm wondering about seeing Texas. Maybe too much excitement. That Premier looks good and fits the bill. We are not bothered about luxury and are ready for night which might need stamina.

Thanks all!

I'd book a table somewhere then go straight to watching Texas. Too much standing otherwise. The street party will just be young uns snogging!

@MagicPen I was thinking about you and your guests when the event was cancelled. What did you end up doing?

Happy new year!

MagicPen · 04/01/2025 14:18

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy Happy New Year! Yes we had to abandon our plan. Luckily we found out in time, got our money back and just continued to family in the Lake District instead.
